Passenger Seat Problems

I have some minor electrical problems that occasionally happen and they are both related to the passenger seat. I see that there is some kind of computer or module under the seat and then a few connections are made under the seat. I just bought the Jeep used a few months ago and when I got it the airbag light started going on and off on me and I ended up finding a piece of garbage under the seat and it knocked one of the connectors loose. I removed the piece and tightened up all the connections and the light went off. This worked for a good while but then yesterday I went over a big bump and it knocked it loose again and the light came on. I just go under the seat and try to move everything around as I dont know what anything is under that seat and it went off. What I want to do though is find the connection that is for the airbag system and clean it. But I have no idea which connection that is and was wondering if anyone had a wiring schematic for the passenger seat on a 2005 gc limited 5.7?

The next problem that I just found was that the driver side heated seats work and the passenger side switch turns on and lights up but the seat has never gotten warm. Now Im just hoping that it will be the same solution. That maybe the seat was removed and reinstalled and they didnt probably plug it in or that something is switched up but then again I dont know what anything is for under there. Is this a common problem with the heated seats? I am assuming that the heating element should still be good as my last car was 12 years old and the heated seats still worked so I figure that the elements dont burn out often. Or is there a common problem and fix with the passenger side heated seats in these jeeps?

Any help here would be great. Thanks again!

Re: Passenger Seat Problems

Never want to stick stuff under modern seats... Well seats that use a strain gauge for weight measurement. When the ORC sees a - occupant weight, bing, airbag light. I have seen wires to the module you speak of (the Occupant Restraint Controller) under the passangers seat break or get damaged, especially when you have crap under the seats.

Knowing what jeep you have would be helpful (year, model, engine size), my guess is its a WK but before I waste my time looking for a wiring schematic to tell you what wires to probe for your heated seat I would like to know I am looking at the right car first ;)

Re: Passenger Seat Problems

Sorry Im so used to posting in the wk forum so everyone just knows what vehicle it is then lol. I have a 2005 grand cherokee limited hemi 4wd. I never will put anything under these seats as I can see how many wires there are down there.

When I say the airbag light comes on just the red light on the dash comes on not the yellow light on the console that says the airbag is now turned off. Since I checked all the connections and made sure they were tight this weekend the light has not come on since. It is just annoying that I have to do that every few weeks. Thats why Im trying to find out whats what so I can try and clean the connections and make sure everything is nice and properly connected.

Yep, I knew what airbag light you were talking about, the one that means "there is a problem" not the "your to small we are going to let you die" ;)

If it sees a negative seat weight it will cause your red airbag light.

Re: Passenger Seat Problems

When you say negative seat weight are you saying that it feels less weight then it should feel? Also are you talking about driver or passenger seat here?

Any luck with a wiring diagram? That would be excellent and a lot of help

Re: Passenger Seat Problems

Im starting to think that it might be the front seat this time. Does the front seat have a weight sensor in it? Also under both of the seats I have noticed some kind of computer or circuit board. On the passenger side it is on the floor right near the front and on the drivers side it is near the front but mounted to the bottom of the seat. Are those the computers for the airbag controls and weight sensors?
