WJ base spaekers upgrade...

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has been able to fit Infinity 9632cf or 9633cf in the front doors. I have a Grand Cherokee 2004 Laredo without the Infinity gold speakers.

I already checked the http://www.wjjeeps.com/audio.htm web site, and it lists:

Speaker opening depth (to glass): 2-7/8"
Factory speaker mounting depth: 2-11/16"

Infinity 9833cf mounting depth is listed as 3-1/16", so it doesn't fit in WJ, right? If so, then why does crutchfield says the Rockford 6x9 will fit?

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_575P169...692.html?tp=91

They listed Rockford's top-mount depth as 3-1/16"!

Thanks a lot...

I'm running DXi690's up front from Polk Audio. They fit just fine. If you can find the size of mine online, it might help you decide if your Infinity speakers will fit. Mine does have the InfinityGold package, but I don't think the speaker depth is any different. The door depth is the door depth.

Polk was actually my second choice. Glad to hear they fit just fine, considering that they are deep!

Top Mount: 3-3/16" (8.10cm)
Bottom Mount: 3-3/4" (9.53cm)

Do you use the factory grill or Polk's?

Thank you for the answer.

The factory grille that's attached to the door...here's a pic...they are installed in the factory location without the Polk Grille:

Perfect! I think I am going to consider getting Polk for all four doors. Infinity is 2ohm, and my HU is Pioneer with 50Wx4 (22W RMS). They advised against using four 2ohm speakers at once. Polk sensivity is also very good at 93db. So I am sure the HU can drive these speakers just fine, and they will be loud enough without amp.

I searched Amazon, it seems DXi690 is in shortage. Do you know anything about Polk DB691? I can get these with the matching DB651 pairs for about $150 for all four doors.

Thanks again.

I love mine...I've got them in all the doors and I replaced the tweets up front in the dash. I'm pretty sure I had the DB series in my XJ, but I honestly don't remember, so I can't really speculate. All I know for a fact is the DXi sounds great and is very well made. I got mine at BestBuy. Have you checked Crutchfield too?

Crutchfield has them. Unfortunately they are rated at 10-100W, so it means I need minimum of 10W to drive these. In other words, no HU can drive these clean, since mine is rated as 14W@1%THD and 22W@5%THD.

I think I better look for some cheap Pioneer speakers, like A-6964R and A-1684R, which their power ratings are closer to my HU, and they can be driven starting at 2W.

Thanks for all the info.

I used Polk's 3.5" speakers up front...DXi350. They didn't go in without a fight though...I did need to do a fair amount of tweaking to get them in. The magnet is basically up against the back of the cowl's sheet metal.

I know it is kind of obvious that you do use an amp, but do you? :)

If so, what kind?

Just the factory one...the OEM infinity gold system came with an amp, so all I did was swap speakers. Later on I upgrade the HU to another stock HU with Nav...but that's about it.
