Any California new owners want a custom cat back for free?

So my contact at Gibson has offered a free custom Cat-Back Exhaust to anyone who can drop the vehicle off for 4 days maximum.

If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll get you the rest of the details.

My initial conversation was to see if they could design a center exhaust where the hitch cover resides.
They can't comment on that until they have one to look at though.

^Borla in Oxnard, CA did the same for my early build WK2, perhaps they would provide a similar deal on the 2012 SRT8 unless the proto base model is the exact same.

My guess is that is not, and/or they would also want in a possible center exhaust effort.

Moosehead...How do you like the Borla?
Many folks put on the Borla S and took off the Borla S due to the "Drone". So I was thinking that the insulation of the new WK2 might help combat that.
What do you think so far?
I usually love Borla, but not so much for WK1SRT8. :(

^I personally love the Borla aggression and feel it is well suited to SRT8 vehicles in general. Full disclosure: my wife and neighbors hate 'em.

Slight drone only on downhill or coasting sections at no or low throttle in MDS. Shifting to 5th or Tow mode disengages MDS, but I rarely do so as it isn't intrusive.

My understanding of those switching out of Borla as it was as much aggressive sound as it was droning, but YMMV. I kept my stock pipes for resale option down the line.

The Corsa guys seem to have good balance of growl without any drone.

I'd be interested to hear the Gibsons.

Corsa has their own "anti-drone" technology that goes a long way in reducing annoying drone.

Still difficult to make mellow pipes for SUV's. The big open echo chamber in the cabin tends to accentuate those frequencies.

Hmmmm....are they asking for a WK or WK2??

putting a center exhaust through the hitch will then leave two big holes in your rear valance where everyone can tell the split exhaust use to be. IMO, that's not "upgrading" the look of one's vehicle, that's making a $60k SUV look ghetto and stupid.

The fascination with the center exhaust boggles my mind. A majority of non-car people who I have spoken to over time have told me that is the only thing they DON'T like about the WK SRT8. Said it looks like something "those kids with the big mufflers and wings would do." It wasn't a buying/selling point for me, I could take it or leave it.

A WK2, hence why it is in this section.

^Schlep, anyone interested in taking the time and expense of converting to a center exhaust aint gonna leave the valance as-is with two vacant holes.

IMO, the WK1 SRT8 center exhaust will go down as one of the best design features of any performance vehicle. YMMV.

That said, I'm one of the guys who would want to tow infrequently and don't mind the traditional location of the pipes on the WK2 SRT8, I'd just want them more pronounced.

Either way, all the good quality aftermarket guys offer these comp prototype programs for first edition rigs and the SRT8 crowd should jump at them.

Schlep,
There's a bunch of folks who are interested in the center exhaust. It's funny that whoever you asked said that about the center exhaust, cause name one ricer with center exhaust. d ( Edit...I see you had Non car people comment on this, but do you trust these as good judges of car appearances?)
Now lets review other notable cool cars. Ford GT, Lamborghini Too many models to list, Porsche Cayman and Boxters, Corvette ZR1, BMW M3 is close, but not as tight together. Definitley not your ricey selection your friends are thinking of I hope.
I'm with Moosehead....I like the center exhaust. And I get lots of compliments on it. but I like them at the sides as well. I would prefer to see a better exhaust tip than that very thin looking trumpet thing they have going on, as well as a more throaty exhaust note.

The request for a loaner is to look at the idea of a center exhaust as an alternative, but in reality, I imagine will only be for cat back that fits in the standard cutouts due to space requirements under the IRS.

I'm curious to see what the outcome is.

Yes. Did he order the SRT8?
