wanting to get a subwoofer, tips?advice?

Hey guys, I've been researching, talking, and wondering around the web.. because I want to get a Subwoofer for my 01 WJ.

I've been looking at Crutchfield.com, and Bestbuy.com for systems, but I'm not sure on what exactly I would need.. I understand it all depends on how big, and how much one is willing to spend. I'm looking for a single 13"(or 15") Subwoofer.

Any tips, advice or other websites I should look at? I really only want something that bumps loud so I can annoy people as I blast my music.. :slapfight:

I don't want to change my headunit either, unless its necessarily vital

If you're wanting to be able to set off car alarms consider a 10w7... I love mine.

First off JL Audio is extremely overpriced for what you get.

Second go to websites like sonicelectronix.com , woofersetc.com , or soundsolutionsaudio.com they have a much bigger selection than crutchfields as well as better pricing.

Thirdly if want a good spl system that also sounds good on music look at brands like SSA, Incriminator Audio, Sundown Audio, Image Dynamics, Diamond Audio, RE Audio, JBL, Memphis and more. All of these companies offer subs that are as good if not better than anything JL makes and some are less than half the price of a JLw6 or w7

It really depends how far you want to go...

If you are wanting to keep your stock electrical system (Battery, Alternator, etc..) then I would go above about 500 - 800 watts. A single 12 sounds great in the back of a jeep due to the large amount of air.

It's all personal preference. There is not a single brand or single sub that everybody agrees is best.

My opinion, find something reasonably priced, then find it even cheaper on Amazon.

I have 2-10w3's in my Jeep and its perfect. ID went under from what I remember and I was never a fan of JBL. My JL's have been through hell in 3 different cars and sound as good as the day I got them

I used to have a JL setup in my car and loved it. I'm going with something a little bigger this time around

BLASPHEMY! That's like saying an Aston Martin is overpriced for what you get. When it comes to car audio, you get what you pay for. JL Audio has a trophy case full of awards because they provide SUPERIOR quality products. Just because they offer the higher end products doesn't mean you have to get them. They also have economy lines that outperform anything in their price range.

To answer your question, you need to decide what you want and get it.
