Off Road with 20 inch wheel questions

I have an overland with 20 wheels. I am going to go do some off road action this weekend. I know the 20s are not meant for off road but I am wondering if they will be okay on easy to moderate trails? Also what should I be careful of so I don't damage them? Or am I stupid for going off reading with my 20s and should just wait until I locate some 18s? Any advice appreciate. Thanks.

I would suggest going outside and grabbing a small rock and placing it next to your wheels. most likely it goes above your tire and near your rim which means anything that size or bigger will most likely damage your rim. I am also going to assume that you don't have off road tires on in which case you might puncture your tire and than be stuck there, always fun.

Easy trails meaning packed dirt with some shallow mud you will be fine. Moderate with some rocks or worse you might have a problem. If you plan on getting 18's anyway its worth waiting for.

What about driving on sand with the 20's would they be ok there?

just make sure you wash them really well after you leave the beach. salt water is a bitch.

Also make sure you let air out of the tires before going on the sand and inflating them back up when you get off the sand.

ARB makes a great tool to properly deflate your tires.

It really all depends on the trails you plan to go on. There are no rocks where I am the most we have to worry about it down tree limbs or stumps. IMO the 20's have a better tread design than the 18's that I had on my limited.

Beach driving will be fine as long as you air down. Painted rims are best for beach driving the polished wheels will eventually get corrosion under the clear coat and will flake.

Just be careful no matter why rims or tires you have and you'll be fine.

20's are fine. At the end of the day it is still a jeep...just don't drive where you feel uneasy. The 20's also work perfectly fine on the beach...there are lots of members on here including myself that have done the beach thing in our overlands with no issues whatsoever.
