When will the Aftermarket catch up?

When I had my 92 Cherokee, there was NO shortage of awesome aftermarket parts for it. The Wrangler has aftermarket mods for nearly everything in the vehicle.

Is it me or does it seems like the WK2 aftermarket is lacking?

+1, tend to agree, particularly considering the 100k + sold in year 1 issue.

admittedly, i gotta problem so YMMV.

I agree that it is lacking but I also think it is because of the target market. Soccer moms and business men don't tend to mod their vehicles much. I would say less than 5% of people that own these will ever see anything but roads and driveways. Whereas a much bigger chunk of wrangler owners have a tendency to take their vehicles "off road".

I disagree cause I am one and I know plenty just like me. I am ready for 4 or 5 different intakes to choose from. A bunch of hand held tuners would be nice as well.

I agree with this to an extent - but such is true for MANY vehicles, but there are still substantial aftermarkets out there.

Yeah, i'm not specifically a business man, but know many people in my profession who like to mod their cars.

Yes I am in the same boat. But I think we are in the major minority.

Socioeconomic target?

:) What, blue collar likes to go fast but us button down or other professional types don't?
Naahhh! I've been a highly educated frustrated mechanic/drag/street racer all my life. LOVE to mod things, make them better, improve them. Mod everything I own. Got a 5.7 2011 just until they drop the 8 speed into the srt8. Already have THAT order in at the dealership.
I do believe that as these things get more complicated, it becomes more difficult to produce aftermarket goodies, i.e. the complexity of the mopar code. Also gas prices will have an effect. If it goes to $5, I won't pay it. I will look at something like a Toureg Hybrid instead. (Check 0-60 in that little puppy!) Do you think most people realize that a CAI actually makes the engine more efficient. Even so, if we get it we all tend to use it. And that means mpg goes down. Things in general are tighter, but I think goodies will come. HOPEFULLY!
Cheers.

I would like a decent full sized bar bar, something like an ARB one would be great....

Yeah, I just read an article this afternoon that said the 2011 Grand Cherokee was one of the top vehicles sold for the year.

Re: When will the Aftermarket catch up?

CJD isn't friendly with the aftermarket anymore. Just look at the Challenger, Charger, and 300 boards and you'll see what the future holds...they have been locking the PCM's on the cars since the 2011 MY and will continue to do so. This means you can't add an aftermarket tune. Applies to SRT and other models. The reason: Fraudulent warranty claims on an already ailing company trying to nurse itself back to health. Their answer to this short term is that they plan to release their own tested and certified mods that you can purchase from the dealer  . If you don't believe me, call Diablosport and ask them about 2011 tunes and when/if they expect to have them.

I've been pretty vocal about this on the Challenger boards and went as far as to sell my Challenger and buy a new '12 Shelby GT500 instead of the new SRT model...a decision I absolutely DO NOT regret! I'm not as concerned about the jeep as it is more of our safe transpo and snow-mobile. But, just wanted to address your question and concern. Don't expect anything soon other than maybe billet bling for your interior, a few suspension components, and maybe a warm air kit :sarcasm:.

Re: When will the Aftermarket catch up?

^I'm afraid GTOG is correct. In the recent SRT8 chat, Giles was asked multiples times why Chryco wasn't more tuner friendly and as stated above it is warranty abuse. He did suggest they are considering an option whereby the PCM will be open up to tuners but then the quid-pro-quo is that the vehicle owner would have no or limited warranty coverage.

Meanwhile it took several years for the tuners to crack prior MY's but the security lock is definitely tougher in recent generations. We'll see, but best case it will take a ton of patience.
