Passenger side window replacement

My wife closed the door getting in the the car and the side window cracked near the mirror. I thought it may have been a defect but there is a chip in the middle of the crack we didn't catch. My standard insurance deductable of $500 applies since Geico has a seperate rider for window replacement which it turns out I don't have. Has anyone tried to replace a side window themselves? Any guides? Not even sure where to get the glass.

Did you try calling Safelite or something similar for a quote? Tell them it's for a sidw window not covered by insurance and see what they say.

Re: Passenger side window replacement

It will cost around $300 just for the glass. I do not recommend replacing it yourself as door glass can be very difficult. Go to a PPG or Pilkington dealer and get a quote. Of course if you want just regular tempered glass it is cheaper, if you still want the laminated glass that comes on the WK's make sure you ask for it.

It should be around $350-400 MAX installed. Here is the cash price listing for the WK2's. Just to let you know Geico only pays $170 to the installer for the same part and labor....so the remaining $330 of your $500 deductible is pocketed by Geico.

Thanks, safelite wanted over $500, Jeep dealer wanted $793 and a local shop with good reputation wanted $386. All were using ppg laminated glass.
