Installing Filter on W5A580 (3.7) transmission

Did the transmission fluid change today....boy howdy! Messy as hell. It was my first time.

Anyway, the filter took more force to remove that to install.

I tried everything, but it would just hang loosely.

Filled and drove and drives better than before.

Is there a special way to install the filter?

Like I said it drives fine, just afraid that vibration might cause it to fall out..maybe, it seams to bottom out on the pan.

BTW.. The dipstick 53013577AC worked. Cost me $8. Too bad it does not fit perfectly nor seals like the factory plug. I ended up reinstalling the factory plug.

Oem filter? I don't think the filter can fall out. IIRC it has a little tab on the bottom of it that rests on the bottom of the pan. The only thing I would be worried about is it sucking air from around the connection point....

If it were mine I'd probably pick up another filter and have a "do over".

The previous filter did the same thing after I removed it.

I saw where the tab would "poke" into the hole, but it did not have a barb or anything to make it stay put.

Don't know man.....all I can say is that when I did mine it was pretty snug. I could rotate the filter a bit but i don't recall it feeling "loose" at all.

NOPE, lubing up the O-ring is a MUST... NEVER install ANY oring without lube, the way they contact the sealing surfaces when mated together gives them a HUGE tendancy to pull, stretch, roll, tear. it is amazing what just a quick smear of atf will do, my preferance being tranmission assembly goo, its made to not cause problems with seals (rubber) and it is thick and tacky yet lubie... my personal fav.
