Does anyone use their WK2 as a Jeep?

Whats up yall. Im an old Jeep guy, I owned a ZJ back in the day and found this site while trolling the ol JU. Not much info over there about the new WK2. I may be back in the market for a new family hauler and the wife suggested we look at a new JGC to counter my desire to get a new Ram. I like to go camping and hiking and the lot so Id actually use the Jeep as a Jeep. Im not talking any crazy Moab type rock crawling, just old abandoned logging roads in Maine with some stream crossings with mud and rocks and the like. Ill probably be interested in one of the off road packages, so is it worth it to get the selec terrain systems or is it wheelable in standard form? Is the selc terrain standard with the 4x4 or is it just with the offroad packages? What are the OEM tires that the standard and the off road packages come with?

Selec Terrain is standard on all Limited / Overland / Overland Summit 4x4 models. You can get it on the Laredo X 4x4 as an option with either the off-road group or all-weather group. I don't believe i'ts available on just a Laredo or any of the 2wd models.

No difference in overall tire diameter between standard and off-road packages, the only differences are tread and rim size.

What about the brand/type? Im sure they are both crap street tires, but I would assume the offroad package's tires are a bit less crap

Less crap but not by much. The tires in the OR package are Michelin Latitude Tour, which Michelin markets as an all-season touring tire. Not even an AT tire. You're going to want to replace them for anything other than dirt roads.

yeah - i love the versatility of the vehicle. great on road, great to haul people and gear, and great to take off pavement at times. I'm not one to have it off road every weekend (although i think some/many users do), but its sill a capable truck...

+1 to what you're after plus some if you go trail rated with quadra drive 2, and add proper AT rubber on 18's.

Used mine in Central NH as a skidder last week. It's been quite capable in Northeastern VT on those mucky dirt roads as well.

Thanks, guys. I still want a Ram because you cant haul firewood and sheet rock in a Jeep, but if I have to, I guess I can settle with a WK2

:P
