Sensational fuel economy Brisbane to Sydney in V6

Averaged 9.1 litres per 100 kilometres for the 2000k return trip, which is outstanding.

This petrol engine has better highway consumption than my outgoing Pajero 3.2 diesel.

If you can get over 900k's out of a tank of petrol in a big unit like this you've got to be happy.

Wow that's pretty impressive. I've got a diesel and only about 600km on it so far, but I'm averaging 11.4 which isn't great at all. My old RR Sport did 10.1 for exactly the same driving. I'm hoping my engine will loosen up over time...

A weird thing is, I do Sydney to Coffs weekly and get 10.8 heading north but only 12.3 heading south... And everyone knows its down hill to Sydney from Coffs....

Last year I rented a 2011 V6 while in Florida for a week. The tank lasted the whole week and still about 1/8 left before I had to fill it up and take back to the rental yard.
I was averaging 10.1L/100Km. I went about 830 Kms with about 1/8 tank left.

My 1200km trip in very hilly area with 5 people and full of luggage.
9.7lt/100km in a CRD for the whole trip. 11.4lt/100km in our normal economy, suburban driving (all short trips). Gotta be happy with a 2.3ton SUV and that type of economy.

My experience with the V6 is that it delivers very good mileage on the highway (although us yanks can't get our heads around liters per km - which actually makes a lot more sense than miles per gallon). I've found city mileage to fall a bit short of expectations, however.

I have a question...to convert this consumption to km/gallons
what do you use American Gallons or Imperial gallons
american gallon: 3.785
Imperial gallon: 4.54

American Gallon would be 9.1liters/3.785 gallons equals 2.404 gallons per 100km
100/2.404 equals 41km per gallons!!! that is amazing

Imperial gallons would be 9.1liters/4.54 gallons equals 2.00 gallons per 100km
100/2.00 equals 50km per gallons!!!! this is unbelivable!!!!

please confirm....

I believe you're half way towards a comparison. You are currently at km/gal. To convert it to mpg you need to divide the 41 and 50 by 1.609 leaving you with US 25.5 mpg and British 31mpg respectively. These are still great numbers...

I don't know if this is relevant to the discussion but this past weekend I drove from Edmonton to Saskatoon. It's about a 530KM drive. On the way there I set the ACC to 100KM/HR and I got:

8.979 L/100KM
31.462 miles/Imp Gal.
26.198 miles/US Gal.

On the way back I set the ACC to 110KM/HR and I got:

11.056 L/100KM
25.549 miles/Imp Gal.
21.275 miles/US Gal.

I was debating if I could do the return trip on the same tank. I still had over a half tank of fuel left. But at 2 in the morning, which is when I was doing my return trip, I was worried that I wouldn't find an open gas station when I needed to fill up. Maybe next time.
