Halo Help

So the motorcycle season is almost over here and things have slowed down with the MC so I have recently started modding my jeep. Now to the fun part...

I decided I want to do LED halo headlights and I have searched the forum on here but still can't find the answers I am looking for. I have some general questions that I am hoping someone can answer for me.

1. What is the diameter of the halos I need for the head lights. I am guessing all four rings will be the same.

2. Will I need a regulator for the halos. If I remember correctly they run at 5v.

3. How can I wire the halos to an external switch so I can turn them on and off when I want, but they will also power off when the car is off so I dont have to worry if I leave the switch on.

I'm sure I will have other questions but those are the ones I can think of as of now. Thanks for the help in advance!

Re: Halo Help

1. cant really help ya on that one, but the high(beam) rings are a tad smaller. Maybe PM Rob or Flashtech.
2. Flashtech(vendor) sells a set that requires NO regulators. Im not sure of the voltage but iirc 12-14v?
3.what i did was wired to this:http://www.oznium.com/12v-remote-dimmer-strobe-switch
It simple and require no running any wires or switches through the firewall. Turn on with a press of a controller and there are 8 levels of brightness, strobes, and blinking.

they wont power off if you forget but they dont take much energy and i think Wes(from flashtech) said a guy on the lxforums nevers turns em off.

Hey Davy, can you post a video of your halos in action by chance?

all 4 sides are unique and not exactly round. i only know flashtech. i worked with them to get the fiorst set made. so best of my knowledge you arent just going to find a ROUND ring and adapt/

all depends whose halos, what color(s), etc. the last batch frm flashtech with 10K run at 14v so NO regulator needed. but some colors differ. just depends what you buy.

if you wwant them OFF with KEy then you cant have a switch to do what you want when the car is OFF right. cause you could leave it ON.

so if you want a switch that only works with the car on, tap a fuse inside that is only ON when key is on, see wkjeeps.com fuses for details. then trigger a relay with the switch. always run the additional lights off relays.

OR if you want a switch that controls the lights NO matter about the KEY then tap a fuse marked B+ in the list on wkjeeps. but like I said that will always have power and COULD be left on.

Thanks for the help so far guys. I have been doing some more research and I am going to make my own. Found a sweet little write up online for making your own...and they actually look pretty good. So now I either need to find someone who knows the diameter so I can make them ahead of time or I need to pull my head lights apart so I can do some measuring. If anyone can help me out with the measurements ahead of time that would be great! You have any clue rob?

Also I think I might ditch the external switch idea. I can still just wire them up so they power on when the car turns on right?

Jeff-ill try and get a vid tomorrow.

J-rod-best if you pull the light aparts and get a measure cause you have to do it sooner or later installing the halos. You can tap it into the parking lights, so they turn on whenever ur parking lights are.

Yeah I was just trying to avoid having the jeep down for as little as possible...guess ill just have to ride the motorcycle. I figured I could just tap into the parking lights but I wanted to make sure first.

Re: Halo Help

yea, def set up some time for the jeep to be down. at least a day or 2. the hardest part will be opening it up but since you got a 05 it will be much easier than the 08+. good luck!

Those are sick! You get your halos from flashtech?

DAVY27 10-11-2011 07:16 AM

Re: Halo Help

Yep from flastech and thanks. It looks so much better than the aftermarket halo projectors.

Thanks Davy. Can you set them to stay at each different level of intensity?
