fuel system problems

I have a 99 cherokee. It seems to me to have a fuel system problem. AT first when accelerating between 20-30 mph the car would lurch forward like it wasn't getting gas. When I was looking to change an in line filter I found out that Jeep corp didn't put one in and that the tank needs to be pulled and the pump replaced. Before I remove the tank I figured that some k100G might help dissolve the junk in the line and I would get off easy. The condition has gotten worse since with the car starting but not staying running. Before I remove the tank perhaps someone can tell me that I am on track and that it's not something else, for example a bad fuel injector. Thanks

Re: fuel system problems
Could be a bad fuel pump, or filter... ultimately I would check for fuel pressure with a gauge before you spent the money. There is a service port on the fuel rail (4.0l and 4.7l)

Re: fuel system problems
The Apple geniuses agree...1st things first...get a fuel pressure gauge and make sure you're getting the right amount of pressure.

It could also be mad at you for referring to it as a "car".
