CMR Dyno Tune

First of all, big thanks to Ditos Motors! I went to get some dyno testing for the CMR tune through Diablo Sport's Predator handheld programer. I arrived at the shop with the 91 octane canned tune already installed in the Jeep and got some baseline numbers from that setup before the CMR tuning started.

The 91 canned tune was slightly rich so the a/f ratio was adjusted and a few percentages of timing was added, not too much because I don't have a huge setup... yet. I'm really happy with the gains, the custom tune has really smoothed out torque management although the lag is still somewhat there (from ETC) but no big deal. The low end power has really improved and the Jeep wants to pull in fourth gear all day. With the CMR I was given a MDS on/off feature and the MDS doesn't surge like it used to with the canned tune. Activation is subtle again and the transmission feels crisp and much happier.

I also had installed the Jet 180* and can report that the coolant needle rests comfortably between the quarter mark and the halfway mark on the coolant gauge. As mentioned in other threads, it's most likely needed if you plan on having a tune.

I have a graph from the canned tune run and the custom CMR run. The Red line is horsepower, the Blue line is torque and the Green line represents RPM.

Canned 91 Octane
  • 265.4 Hp
  • 297.0 ft-lb

Bad ass Ryan!!

Glad to see you were able to net 10hp/10tq.

Cool vids too!!

How many pulls did you end up doing? Did the tuner give you any tips/hints or future mods to do?

I got five pulls but the very first one I was in the waiting room so video of that. He said the next thing would be a cam and/or a beefier torque converter.

Thanks and noted :)

Feels great, Paul! The CMR made the transmission "sophisticated" again. With the canned tune, the torque converter lockup was sometimes too much to take but the "clunk" is all but gone.

Thanks, Hannes! It's subtle when it wants to be and loud when it's angry. I like.

Just a question... did you have a CMR tune done or did he just make adjustments with the handheld only? What I'm getting at is there's a difference between the two. If he just modified the canned tune like you pretty much have said in your first post, then that's not a CMR tune by any means. If you were charged for a CMR, then I'd call them and ask WTF? If the tune was written on a computer, then loaded into the handheld, then into the truck, then that is a CMR tune.

The difference is a CMR tune has soooooooo many more adjustments than what the handheld offers you. From what you have described as the work done today, was everything that the handheld offers you. How much did he charge you? His website says it's $190/hour for his CMR tuning. I don't know if you know the guy or not or got a deal or whatever, but that's what his site says. I don't like to see people get taken advantage of if they don't konw the difference. You know if he did any datalogging while dyno'ing the truck? Basically his laptop is plugged into the Diablo which is plugged into the OBD-II port and it's reading about 15-1000 different things on the vehicle?

Sorry for the rant.... just wondering though.:D

Re: Blackpepper's Dyno Tested CMR Tune - Pics/Videos

It was written on a computer, loaded into the handled, then into the truck. He was constantly going back and forth from a computer located on the driver's side against the wall, back to a hand-held device that was connected to the computer via a wire that wasn't the diablo itself. No way did he sit in the seat and mess with the predator. There were true revisions going on from what I can tell.. so it should be a CMR.

I'm sure he did some logging I asked how the a/f was and he went to his laptop to check the adjustments. The canned tune was rich and he leaned out the a/f and said it was reading around 11.9-12.0 under what conditions I'm not sure but he said the canned tune was down around 10.8
