No squeeking but noise coming from braking

I want to know how I can be absolutely sure this is not going to be a problem or if I need to replace brake pads. I've noticed a couple of times that when I release the brakes from being at a full stop, I hear a Noise similar to that of pushing an old piece of heavy furniture across the floor. I took them to get them inspected at a meineke service center, and they told me the reason it makes that noise is because the brakes that were initially installed were cheap, but they never told me if they were bad. They gave me a quote on how much it would cost for them to replace the brakes. Also, it does not happen all the time. Is this a sign that my brakes are giving out or just some annoying noise? I need to make sure my brakes are in good shape before the winter sets in. Thanx.

Are the brake pins lubed correctly?

Am not sure I never serviced my own brakes. I just know that this groaning like sound is made when I realease the brakes from a full stop and that it does not happen all the time.

Check the pins, if not that there may be an issue with a caliper slightly sticking
