I also had the same codes just a few weeks ago. For my vehicle, it was the #5 and #6 glow plugs that needed replacement. The glow plug module is still good.

Hi I am having the same problem on my 2008 GC CRD. How did you get the code? This is what my mechanic told me with his scan... but he wants to replace all six plugs and the module!

DO you have the scan tool or did you do the key sequence to get the code? My key sequence is not working, it is coming up DTC ________ (blank).

Thanks

I can never get that DTC report to work for me either. Go buy a OBD reader from canadian tire. Much cheaper than 6 new glow plugs and a module!!

Yes for sure -and its on sale this week too $99. Haven't tinkered with my cars since the late eighties but ... just about that time when a glow plug swap turns into a $900.00 fix.

Re: glow plug #5

Great device: Found 3 codes. Glow Plug Circuit 3, Camshaft sensor circuit, and crankshaft sensor circuit. I erased the codes and the remote starter is now working again. (it was working for about 10 seconds then shutting off). Will see if the same codes come up again.
The sensors seem easy enough to swap. It is recommended on the internet to test all plugs and harnesses as there is a possibility that the wrong glow plug plug was reported. May do it myself or go to a mechanic - but nice not to go in blind.

Glad the reader worked for you.

What are the signs to look out for when the glow plugs start to act up? And Karr3.0 I see you are up my way. Don't see many CRD's in the Barrie area.

I don't think all six glow plugs would fail at the same time. Changing the module might not be necessary either. Anyways, you can get the glow plugs at jeepoemparts.com for under $27 each. Have it ship to a shipping house in the US and driver over the border to pick them up. That's better than paying $100 each at the dealer.

Re: glow plug #6 - help!

I did some shopping around and found that Mercedes has them for $41. Around here most of the dealerships are out of stock and want $50 each. Further shopping reveals that Beru has them for 32 and Bosch are 23...

I have been trying to get the Bosch but they are all sold out, so I picked up the Beru today for $32 each.

I will swap out all 6 as there is a good chance that within the next 20,000 km another will go.

Here is the help part: I am having trouble figuring out how to get to the number 6 plug (Drivers side firewall) there is a solid plastic piece that houses wires and cables that is sitting on the engine block. I tried prying it gently but the tabs are damn near impossible to simutaneously lift at the same time... maybe i'm over analyzing it?

Has anyone removed that? Seems simple enough but its not budging!
