engine troubles

i just rebuilt my 88 xj engine, 4.0 including new cam (voodoo 262/268) pistons etc etc. the problem is when i try to start it, i have to hit the gas a little and it starts up and idles horribly, and stalls. i bought new plugs, cap, rotor, wires. new cks sensor. i am honestly stumped. thought maybe a stuck injector? also i have no power at all. runs like crap

Re: engine troubles

Seeing as how you just rebuilt it there is a lot that "could" be causing an issue.

Have you checked and rechecked cam/crank timing?
Ignition timing?
Any codes?

Those would be my suggestions.

The timing is on, no codes. Its an 88 and I believe they do not have codes, and if they do, I have never heard of it. I was measuring voltage at the MAP plug and it read .03V, and the same at the TPS plug so definately comething weird is going on

They have codes, its just more of a pain to get them. A haynes manuel will tell you how as well as list what they mean.

With all that work on the engine I would recommend changing the OEM injectors for the Bosch injectors, more power and better fuel mileage.

I would double check that your distributor is installed correctly... Just one tooth off and it will exhibit these symptoms.

check your injectors n fuel rail, make sure u have pressure. if ur gonna change out injector check out these from fiveomotorspors.com also see if u have good spark, sometime the plugs r not gapped correctly n make sure ur runnin either champion or ngk plugs. cherokees r finiky bout the plugs, no platimum what so ever n stay away from bosch plugs.
