transam's Jeep GC SRT8 Initial Impressions...

Hey everyone. I finally picked it up last night (10/17/11) after work.

First, I'd like to Thank QuickOne big-time for hooking me up originally to my selling dealership. A big thanks for taking pre delivery pictures and posting them here to share. I'm not sure I can mention the name of the dealer on here, so PM me if necessary.

I'd also like to Thank Milous and Scottina for running this site and providing many helpful bits of information. Thanks to the rest of you as well that have been along for this LONG ride. I hope anyone still waiting won't have to wait too much longer.

OK, now onto the Jeep!

Appearance:
It looks much better in person than in pictures. The body lines and stature are captured much more in person. Pictures lose too much depth and presence of the front, rear, and sides.
I'm very happy I picked Silver. I like the way it shows all the detail in the design. It brings out the black areas too.
I don't plan on dechroming or debadging. It looks good to me the way it is. I understand others will think differently, that's OK.
The wheels have a great finish on them when clean. They might appear busy, but I think they also look expensive and effective. They didn't come with wheel locks though. Dealer is looking into whether Jeep has an available set that will fit the wheels properly. Tires look wider in person than in pictures. I haven't looked closely at the wheel alignment yet, so no news there. Front ground clearence measures about 8.5 inches to clear parking curbs hopefully. I haven't tried that out yet.

Interior:
I don't have the Luxury group II. The seats really grab your pants to the point of needing to occasionally raise your azz up to move position. They seem a bit hard right now, but I'm sure they'll wear in a bit over time. The SRT Tour demo Jeep seat felt a little more comfortable, so I'm confident this will be happening. (The seats feel more comfortable now with over 2000 miles) The heated steering wheel (not the bottom metal piece) and seats are plenty warm.

Fit and finish is excellent. Controls and switches have a high quality appearance and feel.

Audio system:
KICKS AZZ!! Very powerful for me. My left pant leg was moving like a flag in the wind from the air that was being pumped out from the door speaker next to me! Incredible sound from lows to highs.
I've downloaded some music already to the HD from a CD. Takes awhile but has plenty of room for music. I haven't tried the NAV or phone stuff yet to comment.

Driving Impressions:
The Jeep starts right up. No fuss. Low burbling idle from inside.
Throttle seems responsive from a dead stop and from moving speeds.
Steering feels heavy at low speeds but lightened up at higher speeds. (I'd like it the other way around).
Visibility is pretty good all around. (One complaint is a constant reflection of the driver's side air vent aluminum trim in the driver's side door mirror).
Upshifts are fast and firm in a sporty way whether in auto or sport. Downshifts are not jerky!
Paddle shifts work OK. If I can't have a stick, then this is a good alternative. It takes getting used to 2-handed driving and staying aware of where they are around corners. Time behind the wheel will help for sure.
Since I'm still under the recommended 500 mile Break-In period, I haven't tried full throttle launches and full throttle redline gear changes to comment on that yet. I have done some highway bursts of almost full throttle and it feels nice and torquey. It feels stable during lane changes.
FYI in 5th/Drive
75mph=2600rpm
80mph=2800rpm
85mph=3000rpm
90mph=3100rpm
No outside wind noise entering the interior on highway.
Slight tire noise.
Slight exhaust drone, especially above 3000rpm and letting off the gas.
More comments in the future as it gets more broken in.

Handling:
I haven't driven it enough to comment enough on this yet. From what I feel, it will be a great handling SUV. I'd like to get about 200 miles on these tires first before I throw this thing in the turns hard. I can't wait.

I had time to take some pictures today of it after work before the sun went down. I made it into a slide show on Youtube so you can see it in HD if you select 1080 mode. There's also a very short cold idle exhaust clip I made before delivery day for what it's worth?

I'd be happy to try to answer any questions you have. I plan on posting more impressions as time goes on in future threads.

Here's the direct link to the slide show, ENJOY...

Congratulations. The car looks great.

Quick question? Was the selling dealer already aware of the price protection for your order? Any trouble with claiming it?

I had a choice between black and silver when I put down my deposit, and had been questioning my decision on silver... No more!

Beautiful truck... Thanks for posting the slideshow (the Satriani tune was a nice touch).

Thanks,
I brought it up at the time back in August and my salesman gave me the impression they were aware of the situation and me not to worry about it. It was not an issue at delivery for me. It was honored without me needing to supply the price protection code number.
