cold air

I know a lot of people on here say cold air intakes don't really help with performance of the jeep but I still wanna try it out so if you were going to purchase one for a 3.7L v6 what would it be and from who to order... Thanks guys

It's going to depend on the cold air intake and what size engine. I have the K&N on my 4.7L I noticed a difference. Throttle response is crisp no hesitation, gas milage is up. Smoother idle sometimes I have to look at the tach to make sure engine is still running. Reason I chose K&N they had the dyno results for the wj model 4.7L I was looking at Volant, They claimed 18HP gain but didn't have dyno results. I purchased mine from ajusa.com. Free shipping and were quit a bit cheaper then other sites even ebay. If I was in your shoes I would purchase one. Also consider a cat back exhaust system. Factory exhaust are restrictive.

The 3.7 is a dog and there is not much of anything you can do to get a meaningful increase in Hp or torque.

BS!

Check my sig.

Get the K&N in that link. But check eBay. I was able to get one for ~260 with shipping

The K&N only claims a 8hp increase and the chances that it actually gives you a 8 hp increase are slim. If you consider that a significant increase then go for it by all means but dont expect to notice any difference in performance.

Well i noticed a difference. I'd also get a ported TB from either Fastman or the vendor here, Flyin Ryan. You will really notice the increased throttle response with that combination.

Re: cold air

Most Jeeps come from the factory with cold air intakes. They take fresh, cool air from outside the engine compartment, feed it through a water separating plenum, and then directly to the throttle body.

Most "cold air" aftermarket intakes actually take warm air from inside the engine compartment, then directly to throttle body, with no water ingestion protection.

What they do offer is more sound, that often gives the impression of quicker throttle response, but while they often can provide additional hp at very high revs, they rarely offer better hp at normally driven revs. They often result in small reductions in torque down low in the revs.

Re: cold air

I always wonder about CAI - all the truck shows and forums say it's the first thing they replace on new trucks. I live in S. NJ and it gets pretty cold in the winter - so is it fair to say my Jeep w/5.7 gets about an extra 8hp just from the cold winter air (then I will lose it when weather warms up)? Does that make sense?

Did it come with a magic wand too? I really doubt you will ever notice anything. Even on my Camaro the only mod I noticed was headers.
