New Vehicle Prep Procedure

New Vehicle Prep - Dealer instructions

Attached is an 8-page PDF file listing instructions for new vehicle prep... imagine how long it would take if every dealer really performed all of the steps.

Also, note the very last item on the list...

If all those steps were really done, imagine what the Dealer Prep cost would be using their normal chargeout rates!
On the other hand this would have been handy to get my front license plate bracket - Item 6 (eventually had to buy one from another dealer's parts department).

Thanks Milous!

Re: New Vehicle Prep Procedure

I really don't think all of these steps shouldn't take more than 30mins per vehicle. Most dealers get a truck load once a week so that isn't that many cars to prep. the correct way.

I personally have never seen protective film left on any vehicle until it is sold, unless it is a special order.

My dealer charged me for $20 gas. When it arrives and its ready for pick up, I bet there will only be $20 worth of gas in there and not a full tank.

Reminds me of a Dilbert cartoon about writing a big procedure manual, then throwing it on a shelf and ignoring it like a dead squirrel.:D

Most of that would go pretty quick. The road test would take the longest, but even then I imagine you're talking an hour or so of time per vehicle (depending on outstanding recalls/RRTs).

If dealers really DID do all that, it would potentially save time on the back end with warranty claims and customer gripes.

Hey Sparro,
You finally made the order. Congrats and enjoy it.

Reading the procedure raises a couple of questions:
What is EVIC ship mode?
Front seat DVD viewing is possible by software change, anybody hack this yet?

Front seat DVD viewing WHILE IN PARK. The feature will only be engaged IF your state does not prohibit front seat viewing. The only hack is via the aftermarket LockPick devices.
