Vibration/Shimmy at 70 mph... 4x2 or 4x4?

Just wondering if it is a 2 wheel drive issue as well? My steering wheel shakes at around 70mph. I have 2011 overland 4x4 with hemi. Trying to narrow it down to drivetrain or tire/wheel balance.

Thanks

Mike

Which wheel package? The 20" Fortera's are crap and will vibrate in and around the 70 mph mark unless you are lucky enough to get a good set. Balancing may help but it just seems to be the nature of these tires on combination with the firm chassis on the WK2.

The 18's (Michelin) don't seem to have as many vibration issues.

Mine had zero vibration, shake, or shimmy with the 20s and the forteras. Maybe I just got a good one.

Swap the tires around and see if the vibration in the front stops.

No shakes on my (20's) on the original balance, when rotated at around 10k, picked up some shake from the previously rear tires, but a fresh balance cured it. The aftermarket 18" wheel/tire combo I use is a bit tougher to get smooth, but to be expected with the major offset change and weight increase.

I weighed the stock 20" wheels and tires and they weighed in at 78lbs a piece which is not light. I thought they were around 34 lbs per tire (tire rack specs) and 27 lbs per wheel (just a guess based on size) but I was way off LOL. My 18 X 9.5s are only 26-27 lbs a piece and the tires are about 45-47 lbs a piece which is lighter than I thought but they are not E load rated like a lot of the 18 inch Terra Grapplers.
