Plan B: Replacing wife's car now and waiting for the 2014 SRT8

So... I've officially decided to skip the 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 and replace my wife's car instead. My plan is to wait for the update to the Grand Cherokee SRT8 around 2014 and hope that they include the things that should have been there this year - 8.4" head unit, 8 speed (or more) transmission, more power, color center screen, LED rear taillights, etc. It's not likely, but perhaps by that time if I wait to late in the model year they'll have cash back incentives too (since the 2nd generation WK2 will have been out for a few years at that point).

I ended up ordering what I think is the best bang for the buck on wheels for the wife, a 2012 Dodge Journey R/T. All-wheel-drive, 8.4" navigation head unit, good towing capability, color center screen, rear LED taillights, moonroof, heated mirrors & seats, dual zone climate control, 6-speed transmission, backup camera / sensors, 24 MPG... all in a functional / sporty looking package for only $30,265. The best part is that SHE'LL have a hauler, so if the Grand Cherokee SRT8 doesn't work out, perhaps I could look at a less "functional" car (like a Challenger SRT8 for example).

Here's what I ordered for the wife:
- 2012 Dodge Journey R/T with AWD
- 283 horsepower V6 with 6-speed transmission
- Brilliant black crystal pearl coat exterior, black leather with red accent stitching interior
- Power express open / close sunroof
- Navigation and sound group 1 (with 8.4N head unit)
- Trailer tow prep group

MSRP is $34,580; thanks to my dad's employee discount and minimum of $1,000 cash back my price is $30,265 (+ tax, title, license, etc.)

It should look like this when it arrives:

Journey looks good. When we traded in my wife's 07 Commander, we looked at 2 or 3 Journeys but ended up going with a 2011 Liberty. I like having a factory hitch (they always look better to me). I know the Journey has the hitch prep but that's just the wiring. Anyways, I'm sure she'll enjoy her new pentastar and the new audio/media unit.

Nice. I thought about the R/T Journey as well when getting the family hauler tyhe wife would use, but instead chose the Grand Caravan R/T. We have three kids (5, 2 and 5 months) and having a minivan turned out to be a great asset.

Yeah... I wish it was a factory hitch too. No big deal; there's several options out there, including an official Mopar hitch. The dealer is going to install the official Mopar hitch before I take delivery.

A smart move. As I said before, MY2014 SRT8 is the one to get..

The Journey looks great. And the nav-unit is awesome.

I'm doing the exact same thing. Last week ordered a 12' Deep cherry red limited. 5.7L of course. Wife wanted the "little hemi" in comparison to my 6.1L. I'm hoping (praying) to get a 13' srt. Best of luck with your Journey.

Our kids are spaced the same, but I'm 2 yrs ahead of you. Bought my wife a Honda Odyssey 3 yrs ago (almost got a caravan but the quality ratings on the previous yr model were horrible). One of the best decisions I've ever made...

Of course, I would consider a Dodge Caravan SRT8 if Cryco decides to go a bit crazy... Would be the ultimate "Man Van" 

I like the fact that it has the 300C SRT8 Nav Screen. They should have put that in the New Jeep!!

They just added the 2012 Dodge Journey R/T "build my own" information to the Dodge website; here's a screen cap of what the one I ordered will look like:

I'm really excited to see the black leather interior with red accent stitching against that backlit red-glow dash and 8.4" touchscreen!
