Gen 3, carboned reflector, VLEDs, CCFLs

Well, I tried everything I could with my camera. If I take pics from further away, the halos wash out and you can't see them. Instead it just looks like the headlights are on. These are Gen3 CCFL halo headlights that I opened up to carbon fiber wrap the orange reflector. All the LED's are VLED except for the 3 going up the sides. I have replacements for those on order, but these are fine for the time being.

I broke a CCFL halo on my last set when I was opening them up. These are new ones that were MUCH easier to open. The adhesive was different. These got baked in the oven at 200 for 15 minutes. I wet a washcloth, placed it on a cookie sheet, and then put the headlamp on the wet cloth. I just didn't want plastic touching metal in the oven. This is after removing everything (connectors, bulbs, etc). A butter knife wedged between the clear lens and the plastic housing and about 45 seconds later, they were apart. Once opened, the reflectors are installed with 2 small screws and they pop right out. I was going to paint them, but I like the 3M carbon fiber film product...the texture is what does it for me I think, plus there's no drying time. After removing most of the old butyl seal, I installed some new 3M window weld (basically butyl rubber packing) and assembled the lens back on. I pressed them together as best I could and clamped it, leaving it overnight. I used a strap clamp after taping up the lenses so they wouldn't get marred. The next day, I removed the clamps and ran a bead of black gasket maker around the seam just to make sure no water would get it. This is the result...

If I could find a cheap guido track suit made out of carbon fiber, I'd wear it all the time...

That engine cover is sweet!

And I was totally joking about the guido track suit. Although it would be pretty funny.

I do have a carbon iphone cover though...gotta match the interior. Hahhaha

Thanks Rob! I may tear into my old ones at some point. I'm thinking about keeping them for spare parts. Never hurts to have a pair of lenses and some extra halos laying around.

Great work on your fogs BTW!
