Latest Consumer Reports

I saw today in the latest consumer reports Jeep and Chrysler as a whole moved way up the list. Jeep was the most reliable domestic brand. Ford went off a ciff moved way down to 20th they say a lot of problems with the new Explorer.

Re: Latest Consumer Reports

There's little doubt Chrysler is better than it was, but I am leery of putting too much trust in a report dealing with vehicles that are still very new. To me, "reliability" is the sort of thing that is borne out over a hundred thousand miles, not something you discover in the first year (unless it's astonishingly poor).

While it can give a good idea of initial delivery of defect-free vehicles (something I've not noted my own WK2 for... too many little minor quibbles; fixed now, but they were there), there's how it is when you take it home and how it is when it's paid off. Sometimes the former will hint at the latter. Sometimes it does not.

I would not trust CR...it is nice to know, but "anticapated reliability?". never forget CR recomendations on mini and such...
Ford screwed up, but is it a story for ANY maufacture with a new model?

Re: Latest Consumer Reports

Consumer Reports validity went out the window for me with this latest issue (though I had always suspected it was less than accurate). They said the Grand Cherokee was much improved and the new BMW 5 series was really poor. I know this is one case but we have both a 2011 BMW 5 series and HAD a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The BMW hasn't had one issue and the 2011 Jeep spent the month of August in the shop.

Maybe the Wrangler brought up Jeep's score?

Whether we believe the CR rating is valid or not this is good news for resale value. Plenty of people take CR seriously.

Main thing for CR readers is that the GC is now Recommended. Great news all round, and richly deserved.

Hopefully a sign that American manufacturing is on the mend.

This is good news, even if to be taken with a grain of salt. My WK2 hasn't had a single issue yet, but only 2K miles so far.

Re: Latest Consumer Reports

I received the December issue of Consumer Reports last night. It shows that reliability with the V8 engine is just below average and reliability with the V6 is a little worse. Both cars are rated "recommended."

The survey was sent out last spring. I'd imagine that, with manufacturing improvements and the TSRs, a survey today would lead to a better rating.
