Best A/T tyre in 20 inch and 275/55/20 size

HI, i got the 20 inch tire overland and went hunting with my buddy and to not make you cry like i did.....the stock tire SUCK big time.

So i am changing the tire for the Best All Terrain Tire out there, here are my options if you have another worth mentioning please do, these are all 275/55/20:

Pro Comp All Terrain (these is the ones i like best)
http://www.procompusa.com/productlis...57&ptid=100806

Nitto terra Grapplers
http://www.nittotire.com/Tire/terragrappler#size

Good year Silent Armor
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....er+SilentArmor

Fireston Destination AT
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

I have no experience with the PRO COMP Tyres, can some tell me.
i am looking for the best A/T tire in that size 275/55/20
No rock climbing just Mud offroading (not extreme)

What opinions can you give me

Everyone raves about the firestones and I have a few friends with the Nittos who just live them. If I were buying tires today it would be one of those 2.

If you are doing any kind of mud you want a MT tire. ATs will clog up almost as fast as the stock Forteras do. As far as mud with an AT the procomp extreme ATs are a good one (better than Baja Claw MT in mud on my 4X4 GMC truck) but they do not have a 275 55 20 size. The Terra Grapplers do ok in mud for an AT. The procomp regular ATs are not good in mud at all as the tread is too tightly packed. I have 305/60/18 Terra Grapplers on mine and I like them a lot in sand and slick hard packed dry clay.

I've been very impressed with the Cooper Zeon LTZ. I have had them on 2 Range Rover Sports and a Cayenne Turbo. At an offroad Range Rover event, lots of the other Rover owners were jealous of how well the tires did. We were on trails that had been freshly made, not the typical dirt roads.

The tires come in a 275/55/20 and also a 285/50/20. When my 2012 JGC Overland comes in, I'm going with the 285/50/20 as it is closer in overall diameter to the factory 265/50/20 tires.

+1 to the Firestones, but agree with T2, for mud go to MT setup.

One of our best tire experts at JG, NHWK05, also likes the Terra Grapplers.

Lastly, if you are doing anything beyond moderate trail or mud, I would recommend an 18" wheelset.

Yeah I really like my Terra Grapplers overall and I am really glad I went down to a 18 inch wheel. If he wants mud traction though KM2 BFGs are good as are the Wrangler MTRs and both are livable on the street but neither comes in 275 55 20 in fact I have yet to find any MTs in 275 55 20.

So which A/T tire do you think is the best for Mud...i know that mud is the baddest part of a A/T tire but i dont want MT since it is too noisy and a lot of vibration and compromising in wet highway use (i had MT in my other truck) and i had to slow a lot down because i can slip anywere...
so please A/t tire with best mud performance is....in 20 inches?

The Wrangler duratrac is probbaly the best mud profiled A/T, but you will need to go with an 18" size. Otherwise just go with the terra grappler, it is more aggressively treaded than the other choices, but is also not known for great mud performance. Nitto does make a 295/55/20 trail grappler which would be better, and only 32.9" tall, but they are noisy.

Only 32.9" tall? A 295/55/20 would rub really badly on both the fenders (he would have to cut his like mine) and the upper control arm bolt (he would likely have to cut the whole bolt off which he cannot do or add a 20 mm wheel spacer). 275/55/20 come within mms of the upper control arm bolt width and height wise on the stock wheels

I agree with T2...with the stock 20"s, I would not venture any bigger than a 275/55/r20 tire. I am a huge fan of the stance & performance of WIDE tires...however unless you are using aftermarket wheels, some spacers, or doing some wheelwell modifications (ie; trimming, etc.) I would advise to stay somewhat conservative with the tire sizes...otherwise, you might have driveability issues, or worse end up with a cut tire. Also, keep in mind that since there is a variance in exact sizing amongst brands of tires...while one tire in a 275/55/20 may fit without issue, another may not...therefore, it would be wise to perform a test fit prior to purchase.

We will be upgrading to 295/45/20's in the future, but not until we have upgraded the wheels from OEM 20x8 to aftermarket 20x10 with correct offset & backspacing to fit the beefier rubber.

Good luck with your search...hope you find what fits your individual needs for your Jeep!!!

@RushDriven...if you are able to fit a 285/50/20 on the factory 20's without issue at ALL levels of QL, I would certainly like to know!! We were going to go with that exact size of tire...but this fitment has not been done (that I know of) on the OEM 20's, and we didn't feel like being the guinea pigs this time around, so we are using the 275/55/20's instead...needless to say, I believe you will answer a lot of fitment questions about that specific size, if you choose to go that route.

So...keep us all updated of your results!! :)

TIA

20 x 10 +25 to +30 offset (backspace needs to be between 6.2-6.7 inches) is the range you need to fit without worrying about hitting the upper control arm bolt. They will stick out a little but that is absolutely unavoidable with a 10 inch wide wheel. I have 9.5" wide +25 offset and they stick out a good inch from the wheel wells.
