Am-autoparts HID Headlight
Hello all,
I hope this helps anyone who is thinking about purchasing this Headlight to do the 08+ oem hid conversion.
I've been having a problem with one of my headlights after doing the conversion and had to purchase a new headlight. Here is the thread incase anyone is wondering. the problem does not seem to be headlight related and something with factory wiring or senors. I think

The headlight I purchased is this one.

You can do the 08+ oem hid conversion that Scott wrote up with this headlight with no problem. Although the headlight is slightly different. Instead of using a "star" screwdriver to adjust the headlight up or down there is a knob you would turn to make the adjustment. The other difference is where the bulb goes in there are 2 latches that keep the bulb in place. You do need to purchase a ballast and D1S bulb. And yes the wiring harness for the ballast is already installed in the headlight. The name brand of the headlight is Eagle Eyes. Here are some pics. Hope this helps anyone thinking about purchasing the headlight.

You can see where the ballast will be inserted into the wiring harness.

The 2 latches that hold the bulb in place. And the white knob used the adjust the light.

OEM HID headlight for comparison.

The light produced from headlight. It looks like there is a "halo" above the light.

Comparing the lights Driver side am-autopart headlight. Passenger side OEM headlight.

It almost looks like a rainbow effect at the edge of the light with the am-autopart headlight. Kinda hard to tell. If anyone knows why this happens let me know please.

Hope this was helpful.

Re: Am-autoparts HID Headlight
The projector lens on the aftermarket headlamp is either plastic or ground/ polished wrong, causing a prism effect.

Re: Am-autoparts HID Headlight
Yea the price you can't beat. $150 for the headlight. Compared too $350 or more. Just wish I could figure out what is causing my flickering issue.

did you use the factory ground location?

Re: Am-autoparts HID Headlight
Yup I used the factory ground location. I even got a dremel and sanded down the paint to bare metal and placed the ground for the relay directly against the metal.

Re: Am-autoparts HID Headlight
did you zip tie the relays down? I zip tied one down too tightly and it was crimping one of the wires as well. As soon as I gave the relay more slack, the flickering was gone. Just a thought.

Re: Am-autoparts HID Headlight
Yup I did zip tie the relay down. But there is a plastic piece that is like a tab with a hole so you can zip tie it down through the hole. Yea I checked no wires are crimping. It seems to flicker every morning. And then at random times.

Re: Am-autoparts HID Headlight
I had the same problem with a Mercedes. The fix was to hook the relay wire triger ( the one that normally hooks to the headlamp feed) up to the parking lamp wire. This fixed the flicker and was a fix that people that converted Mercedes used. They also make a 55 watt resistor that hooks up from the headlight feed to ground and makes the system thank the proper load is on the system. If the Mercedes did not see the proper headlamp load it would back the voltage down to the headlamps. The headlamp feed was controlled by the body computer but the park lamps were just a 12 volt feed.

Re: Am-autoparts HID Headlight
Just a heads up to everyone. I have the am-autoparts hid headlight on the driver side and the oem hid headlight on the passenger side. I was driving behind one of my friends this past weekend and they let me know it looks like 2 totally different lights. The driver side(am-autoparts) looked yellow, passenger(oem) side looked white. I have 5k temp d1s bulbs in both. He described it as looked like 2 motorcycles driving behind him. I'll be switching the light back to the oem hid light on the driver side.

Just a heads up for people thinking about buying these lights.
