WJ auto trans service
Hey everybody, I'm new to this forum and have a question. I bought a 2001 WJ 2 weeks ago and have been doing a few routine maintenance jobs and have hit a snag on one. When starting to remove the transmission pan bolts, I found that one bolt at the right rear corner is right above a support for the exhaust pipe. It is so close to the bolt that I don't think there is enough space to get that one bolt out. I'm sure other "do it yourselfers" have run into this. Does anyone have any advice for me? Also, I failed to mention that this is a 4.0L automatic. I'll take whatever pointers anyone has. Thanks!

Re: WJ auto trans service
that mount is held in by one bolt from the top a 15mm i believe... then that goofy brace bar just loosen the 18mm nut where it mounts so it can kinda swing out of the way... you want that nut loose when you put the mount back on as the 15mm bolt bolts to that goofy brace bar and having it loose-ish allows easier installation... once you have that mount bracket tight go back up and tighten the 18mm nut back up and viola!

Andrew L:

Do you think it would cause a problem to just get rid of that brace? As far as I can see, it's just a support for the exhaust pipe, and I could probably fabricate something simple to take it's place. Do you think that would be a mistake?
