Question for those with orders or who have already got truck

When did you and your dealer finalize the out the door price? I'm not talking "oh, they said they would give me invoice/affiliate/MSRP" etc. I'm talking hard numbers. Dealers have known about the price protection for 3 months, as well as pricing?

I don't expect those without their trucks built yet to have hard numbers, but what about you guys that took delivery already or have a truck built and/or in transit? Have you worked your final numbers, did you ask yet?

Reason I ask, I broached the subject with my dealer after the truck was built and let ehm know I knew that Affiliate Pricing was not available. He basically didn't answer the question and only said "they would not lose my business"", I didn't push as I didn't think it would take this long to ship. But now that my dealer received and delivered the Deep Cherry Red SRT8 that is identical to mine aside from color, I know they know all pricing, price protection, and what they are looking to sell it for. I'm a bit concerned why they won't settle the final price now so everything is all set. If they are going to screw me, or want me to pay much over invoice I'd like to know now to get it over with......the fact I was offered an allocation for another rare car at MSRP that just opened up is a reason too ;)

P.S. Not asking for your exact final number, just if you had negotiated it by now

May I suggest you sit down and talk with them again and get them to agree in writing something you both will accept on the deal? Or at least to get an idea if you are both on the same page. They may or may not be willing to show all their cards at this point to keep the upper hand! Good Luck!

It's always in their favor to do the final negotiation when the vehicle has arrived and you are at the dealership - this is the "weakest" moment for buyers as their excitement level is high and they are anxious to drive the vehicle home. It's also usually when you find out that your trade-in (if you have one) is worth far less than you were told prior or what was implied. And then there is the finance office, the final destination of the purchase journey, where many dealers will attempt to soak you for hundreds or even thousands of more dollars - and anyone who spends a single extra penny in the finance office becomes an instant member of the Sucker Club.

Re: Question for those with orders or who have already got truck

Thanks for the input from both. No trade in for me and I'm putting half down in cash if I buy. I'm a savy veteran of the process as I have bought many cars and my bro-in-law was the Sales Manager of a dealer for 15yrs before changing careers due to the auto downturn a few years ago (I worked their for 3 years during college).

My thought process here is: Say I was ordering this vehicle right now from scratch. We'd be negotiating a price and have already agreed upon it before they even think of submitting this order to the factory. But here I am, deposit already in their hand for 5 months, waiting and waiting for this vehicle, but they don't want to work price. I am beginning to think they want me to walk so they can gouge someone.

Yea, it helps to have something in writing, I just have an agreement in emails that says @ invoice...they still haven't given me an exact price but I can pretty much calculate it myself so I know what it is at closing. Even if you have that in writing they may still try to pull something over on you... it certainly helps a lot but never forget most dealers are scumbags that will try to screw you over any way they can (see sig).

I would be thinking the same thing. They have their exact numbers in hand, there is no other reason that they cannot finalize the deal for you at this time.

Am I the odd one here who worked the numbers when I placed my order?
Have fun,
Matt

I think it's more about dealers that are changing their tune and trying to make some extra cash off another buyer willing to pay more.

That could be and I understand those who placed orders prior to pricing being released but once it was released, pricing should have been figured out then not once the vehicle is at the dealership. Once mine comes in all I have to do is take the keys and go.
Have fun,
Matt

Re: Question for those with orders or who have already got truck

I made the same mistake...You are likely going to be screwed! I will repeat my previous post here to help, sorry to all those for the repeat. I had a deposit on it in June. In September the price was released by Chrysler. Once the price was increased I called and talked about the price protection. I was told they will honor it. In early September I walked in to the dealer to hammer out a price. I told them i need a price in writing so that i can have time to plan for the expence. At first they resisted, but I said I have all day and to take their time. They even went on lunch without talking to me! After sitting there for 2 hours they got the hint I wasn't leaving. They called the owner and they immediately told me that they want Msrp. So I was calm, and was willing to deal. I mean, they had my deposit and talked to them for 4 months, so we had a relationship.... I thought they would make me work for discount so that i feel i got a deal. I said so msrp with price protection is the starting point. He said No. They want full new msrp, and not 1 penny less, take it or leave it. I demanded my refund and was terribly upset. I went to another dealer, and we worked out a great price in less than 15 minutes. Very happy now. I suggest you do the same because now I am in the back of the line. If I would have gotten the price in writing when pricing came out I would have gotten mine by now, or could have moved to the other dealer sooner and put the reorder in sooner.

I agree, but I have approached them twice on getting a final number since Sept when my truck was built and Affiliate Pricing not allowed. Even a $500 ballpark would do. Nothing. Today at 9am I emailed my guy asking for it, stated I know they sold the red one I looked at already so they have all of the numbers.

I've heard nothing as of this post.....

I work long days due to my compressed work schedule and commute, get up earrrrly...but I am inclined to hop in OUR SRT8 we have once the wife gets home and make the 30 minute drive to PA and surprise them in person. Forcing them to make a decision tonight.

What Milous recently posted is what I have been thinking for over a month....there is nothing stopping them from coming to a price. In Dec 2009 we went to this dealer and sat down and spec'd/negotiated the price on our WK SRT8 and they ordered it that night. It was right before the final cut off date for ordering WK SRT8s. Due to previous business with us, I don't know why with a truck already ordered and built they cannot finalize a price for this truck!! I think they know Mineral Gray is rare, in addition to the model as a whole, and want to keep it.

This post made me email my dealer for my price today. This is what they sent back. MSRP : $57,290.00 with CDI discount $52,140.00 and discount for price protected sound system upgrade $1,000. Total: $51,140.00 plus 6% Michigan sales & plate fees.
