SRT8 braking performance on a Laredo?

I was looking at the specs for the SRT8 and according to the Jeep website, the braking distance from 60-0 MPH for the SRT8 is only 116 feet, compared to the third party tests of the Laredo which I've seen which show a braking distance of about 128 feet -- this even though the SRT8 is 500 pounds heavier.

128 feet isn't bad at all and is on par with the competition, however 116 feet is really impressive, matching and even beating out small cars that are half the weight of the WK2.

Just for curiosity's sake: if I wanted to shorten the braking distances of a Laredo WK2 down to SRT8 levels, or even below (again considering the fact that the Laredo is 500 pounds lighter than the SRT8) what would be the best way to go about doing it? Would it be possible to put 20" wheels on a Laredo and slap the SRT8's "high-performance Brembo brake" system (calipers and rotors) on it, or would more be required / is there an easier way without having to put 20" wheels on it?

Thanks in advance for any insight you guys may have!

JC, the below thread will tell you more than you ever wanted to know on the subject. Note that you would have to change out not only the brakes, but the knuckles and perhaps wheelset to get the 2012 Brembos onto a base WK2. Maybe try SS lines, new rotors, new pads, or perhaps the HD set off an Overland for a cheaper alternative?

Also, v6's have smaller Brakes than the v8's. And, short of bolting on Brembo goodness to your ride, it'll be hard to get sub 120ft.

That being said, some new pads and SS lines will indeed help. Just don't go too agressive on the break pads. A lot of people make the mistake of getting 'Performance' brake pads, but they will annoy the heck out of you daily driving, as most require lots of heat to get sticky, and dust like crazy.

Tires alone can make a big difference. Summer/performance tires generally brake the best just due to their better grip.
That would be your cheapest upgrade.

Im no expert but i think suspension also has a big part to play. Lower it and put firmer sports shocks and springs on. In terms of expense you would do this before putting brembo's on. But what I don't know is if this will give you decent "bang for your buck".
