Adaptive Cruise package - get it or skip it?

What do you think? After using this for some time do you think this is something that you can't live without or after couple of months you forgot you have it.

Looking to purchase my Jeep soon but initially I didn't care for it and was not planning to get it. Now I'm thinking if I'm going to spend 40K on a car maybe I should get it.

Just to clarify I'm talking about the whole package: ACC, blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning. I'm not a big fan of conventional cruise control and even though I have it in my current car I don't use it.

Re: Adaptive Cruise package - get it or skip it?

When I bought my S4, i had a 2 day loaner with adaptive cruise control. I played with it a bit to see if it was something I wanted to order. I found it a complete novelty, and something I could easily live without.

Its a very cool feature, but if you don't use regular cruise (i dont either), you'll probably find little use for it.

I can't comment on blind spot monitoring, probably a useful feature, but I typically monitor my own blind spots. Same goes fro forward collision warnings ....

Re: Adaptive Cruise package - get it or skip it?

I've never owned a vehicle that has it, but my Dad had it in his LS430, and I've had a couple rentals and loaners that have had it so I've used it a good bit.

My opinion...I wouldn't spend a dollar on it. Its a neat feature don't get me wrong, but I personally only use cruise on long highway trips, and in traffic I found myself more comfortable working the throttle myself to adjust for traffic patterns than putting my confidence in the car to do that.

I do a lot of driving so fro me it's worth it. But think of it this way, you aren't buying the adaptive cruise. You are actually buying Advanced Warning and Adaptive Cruise
Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path Detection and Forward Collision Warning.

For me, when you add it all up I find enough need, value and extra safety is worth it. Sure, I'd love all that to be free or standard or less than $1295 on the Overland

A different way to look at it.

If you could do that, they wouldn't be blind spots.

There have been stories on these forums about people avoiding nasty accidents because of the detection system. I wish I had it.

You can do a search for examples, most think it is worthwhile. It is an option I don't know how I lived without for all those years, wouldn't buy another vehicle without the collision warnings.

It sure beats my old blind spot detector... throw the turn signal on and start moving into the next lane and listen for the horns blaring :)

The adaptive cruise reduces driver fatigue on long drives; the warnings are excellent safety features for getting on the highway and changing lanes. Well worth the investment, even if you don't spend much time in traffic. I don't think its has any off road use, however... but it does warn you of a tree that is about to jump out in front of you... .

The Blind Spot Monitoring is dope as hell.....so I'd say yes. I finally got to see what the Forward Collision Warning was like today. Some mother-father slammed on his brakes and the warning came on the EVIC.....BRAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am very glad I got my '12 GC Overland with adaptive warning/adaptive cruise. Although I do not use cruise often, when coming up fast on a semi or other traffic, the sensors brake and reduce speed - and the overrides are as easy as stepping on the gas pedal and going into the passing lane. I find these very handy safety features and the more I learn about them, the more I realize what a benefit they really are. I also have had people turning rapidly in front of me as the dive alarms sounded!

I don't have it for only one reason: it was not yet available when I ordered (twice) back in July/Oct-2010. But I would have ordered it if I could. I think the price is reasonable, even if I would rarely use the ACC component. The other parts of the package are worthwhile alone for safety (blind spot, cross traffic, forward collision).

I only regret not getting Blind Spot detection. ACC would be nice, but not quite as useful for me.

I find blind spots on the WK2 quite large - this would help a great deal.

My dealer really undersold the whole package - odd.

It is called looking over your shoulder and not relying on the mirrors, LOL

I think it should be standard on all cars. I really wish more people used cruise control, it seems like the novelty wore off after it became standard.

If I am on any road with light traffic I am on cruise. I can't stand people with erratic speeds on highways.
