Biggest 17" tires on stock wheels?

Hey everyone, I've done a fair amount of searching without much luck here. What's the biggest 17" AT tire that I can run on a base 2012 Laredo on the stock 17" wheels? The 17's are going to become my winter setup.

I have seen pictures with a 255/70/17 but they weren't on stock wheels. Does anyone know which/if any of the following would fit?

255/70/17?
265/65/17? (same diameter as 245/70/17)
265/70/17?

I have no problem trimming the upper control arm bolt if need be. I'd like to keep the tire inside the wheel well, so I'd rather not use too big of a spacer if I didn't trim the bolt. Thanks.

I am also interested in this information, I would like to run the tallest tire possible. im wondering how close to a 32 inch tire I can run.

According to the thread on jeepforum.com, it looks like you can run a 255/75/17. I'd have to see it to believe it without mods.

I just ordered the Toyo Open Country's in a 265/65/17. We're going to try mounting them without any mods first. If I need to cut down the UCA bolt, that's not a problem. I'd rather not run spacers, but we'll see...

I just got back from getting my tires mounted on the stock 17" wheels.

I went with the Toyo Open Country 265/65/17's because they are the same diameter as a 245/70/17 but almost an inch wider. This way the speedo will not be off, but I will put more tire to the ground. Pics to follow.

Absolutely no clearance issues with the 265/65/17's on the UCA bolt. I have only put about 10 miles on, but I have tried lock to lock turns in a parking lot with no rubbing either way. If I get any rubbing with articulation, I'll post the details.

Looks Great, I wish the 265/65/17s would fit the older WK with out cutting the bolt. Its really hard to tell because some tires in that size hit the bolt and some dont. My cheap firestone made ATs were a 265/65/17 and did not hit but i know that the bfg at ko hits in that size. Maybe its the squared off tread shoulders on the bfg ats.

Any way, Great choice with the Toyos you should love them. I would love to get a set if i can afford it next year. IMHO though i would have deff done white letters out, i think those wheels look so much nicer with the white letters out.

Thanks. I had the white letters out on my last SUV with the Toyo's. When I ordered this set, I figured I'd switch it up. Good thing, because this set didn't have white lettering in either side.

Bringing back this thread from the dead, because it's the best one I could find to contribute my findings without starting a new one.

:poke:

I test fit some 265/70-17 Goodyear Wrangler AT Adventure's (31.70") and they did not fit my '14 with stock suspension, Moab wheels (17x7.5 - 44.45 offset), with 1.25" spacers. They rubbed considerably when turning the steering wheel and even with a completely stock setup, I don't think they would work either. They're just a hair too tall, so I had to downsize to 265/65's.

It still confuses me why some people can have that tire size fit and especially the 255/75's, but it's been confirmed they work without rubbing for them...somehow.

I'm now always questioning whether any mod or alteration another WK2 owner does that will "work" across everyone's WK2's, because I'm about 1 for 3 in basing fitment confirmation from other threads and contributed info on this site and others. Just always be aware of the possibility I guess.

A winter tire is superior to an AT tire in the snow, slush, and on wet and dry roads especially in Boston, MA area. Only advantage that the AT tire is offroad in the dirt and mud and that could be temp dependent. winter tire gives you superior performance on wet and dry roads when temps are below 45 degrees or so.

A lot of times the offset of the wheels can cause it to rub. If you took the spacers off and then test fit it, I would bet they would be close but fit just fine.
