A little metal polishing...

Well, having now been driving around in a little Civic everyday for the past month, last week I decided to take my baby out for a blast.

Her she is North of Lochearnhead. Sadly the light was fading and without a tripod I had to blow the sky (hate compacts). :(

Anyhow, seeing as that was probably going to be the last outting this year I thought I'd do some cleaning while waiting on the mopar cover.

Snow foamed (with Meg's Super Degreaser) and pressure washed the underside to remove as much crud as possible although it was pretty tidy.

No afters as my arthritic knees were killing me, even with a cushion. Was on them for 2 hours getting it clean.
Washed the top half and then put the stuff away, couldn't take any more.

Yesterday, thought I'd tackle under the hood. Something's always bugged me under here, those little metal pipes everywhere. I tried to buff them up before with no luck. Picked up a bottle of AutoGlym Metal Polish a while back and had great success with it so decided to give it a go...

Wow. Little bit of effort but hardest bit was getting to them, these two weren't bad but there were 6 of them, 2 very tricky ones.

Another two

After:

Full shot:

Then got on my back and done the mufflers - pipe work next year tho...

Forgot a proper before:

After:

So there we have it. Just a little thing but, dayum what a difference it makes.

Shame the alt, AC compressor and block are a different finish. Soooo want to get chrome/polished parts up front and get the block painted Mopar orange, maybe in time...

Thanks for looking.

Hahaha. I looked like a coal miner, but the results are awesome. Think the pipes might be chrome plated, they come up very shiney!

Yeah, BBM pic didn't do much justice but that is the BB photos.

Whilst lying on my back buffing the muffler, I did realise a small amount of oil coming out the rear diff at the prop shaft area. Need to go get that done, may as well get all the fluids changed too.

Fancy getting the prop shaft powdercoated red or orange, depending on price to remove/re-fit... :D

Probably the seal that's gone. Cheap part, easy fix on a ramp. I got a mechanic to do mine cause I didn't fancy attempting it lying down. Less than an hour though

Monkey see...monkey do. Here are my before and afters....crappy iphone pics, but you get the idea.

Great idea Martyp!

I did this partially by hand, partially with a Dremel with a buff on the end, and Wenol metal polish. 15 minutes maybe?

Funny how your A\C line goes in a different dirrection, but nice work. Looks SCHWEEEEEET!!!!!!

Those exhaust manifold covers are aluminium too and will buff up real nice, again access is the main issue. RHS is easier but LHS will mean pulling the battery out - although RHS means taking the heatshield for the CAI off so may 40/60... :D

I'll have to take a closer look at mine. I've honestly never noticed any manifold covers. Again, great idea! I wish the cast parts would polish up too. Actually...nevermind...I'd still be out in the garage polishing if that were the case :)

Hmmm if the weather was nicer I would do this myself. Maybe in the spring.

Great looking engine bays guys!

Yeah, I'll need to redo it in the spring after the winter is done ruining everything. I effing hate the winter.
