Info center displaying wrong MPG

Does anyone else notice this? I can kinda display correct instant if you reset it while going steady on the throttle, or cruise at highway speed. KINDA

Basically, my average is not right at all. AND my distance to empty is way off. It tells me 0 miles until empty when I still have about 2 gallons left in the tank.

Is there a way to reset just that? Or maybe a comp update at the dealer?

Mine tells me I have 0 KMS remaining at almost 1/8th of a tank. Way to early IMO

there is a reserve built in so you dont run out of gas.

I noticed that this will change a lot based on what your current traffic/speed will be. For me after driving on the freeway for 30 miles it will say 25 miles till empty. Getting off of the freeway and driving a few blocks in SF traffic it will say 10 miles till empty.

iirc it is averaged over your last 30 miles of driving

It you reset the MPG while at WOT....it might say 2 MPG.

If you reset the MPG while coasting down hill without you foot on the accelerator....it might say 45 MPG. Mine does.

Also, the reverse is set to say 0 miles till empty when you actually have 3 gallons left in the tank. That's why it only fills to 18 gallons when you fill it up when empty.

2005 WK has a 21 gallon tank. 21-3=18

It is bad for the fuel pump to run on a completely empty tank. The reserve is built in more to allow extra fuel in the tank for the pump to remain cool then to keep you from running out. You should never run it that low unless you have to

My problem isn't really the distance til empty. Its with the average mpg.

I never trust those things. If I want an accurate reading, I do the calculation myself.

It was the same on my 2008 Malibu, just a ballpark estimate.
