Remote Starter

I have a 2012 JGC Laredo with push button start.

Jeep dealership wants $700 to install the remote start. Seems a tad high to me.

So im thinking of purchasing this: http://www.justforjeeps.com/remotestart1.html

Is this the correct one I need to purchase.

They said if i have the piece, they want $295 to install.

No remote start on the Laredos? I thought they all had remote start.
That kit should work just fine.

Standard starting on Laredo X, iirc.

interesting that you just need the fob and not a module unit inside the GC? would you still need to pay the dealer to program your remote?

In another thread someone opened their fob and messed with the contacts where the flipper glass was supposed to be and it started working for them. But i agree with the module question.

PS Larue tactical, very nice indeed

Re: Remote Starter

You have to order the Security and Convenience package on the base Laredo to get remote start.

From what I have read, you just need to buy the new key fob and have the dealer program it to work. It sounds like the module is already in the Jeeps, just needs programming.

so why do they sell the kit with all this parts if you only need the key fob???

There's a thread on the forum about how to get a 2012 key fob to remotely unlock the flipper glass:

http://www.jeepgarage.org/showthread...=flipper+glass

Apparently, even though Jeep removed that functionality from the fob (and its icon on the corresponding fob button), it still works if you put "a little metal disk" under the corresponding fob button.

If the remote start module is already installed, could you access remote start by simply putting a little metal disk under the corresponding fob button?

Hey guys, I'm not 100% sure about the remote start being pre-installed, it's just something I read while I was researching mine. When I bought my Laredo, I thought it came with the remote start, but when I went back online to look at the dealer's inventory it was not listed. So I started looking into what it would take to add it. It turns out that it was not listed as "remote start" because it was part of the Security and Convenience package, and it was, in fact, part of the Jeep I bought.

However, looking at the link from justforjeeps above, there is an installation manual with about 19 pages of directions. Doesn't sound like it's as easy as having the dealer simply activate what's already there. Sorry if I gave misinformation.

That would make the kit almost $600 plus $80+ for the dealer to program it. So $800 from the dealer isn't so bad. I would call around to different dealers and get quotes have your local dealer match the lowest one. If you don't save much that way order the kit and a key on ebay.

Save $30 buy getting the kit on ebay.

Key on Ebay $80

$270 for the parts $80 programming = $350 total
