My 2002 SE 4.7 blows away my 2005 5.7 in 0-60 by 2 car lengths-WHY?

I have both a 4.7 2002 SE and 2005 Limited 5.7L. Both are stock and excellent SUVs. From a "non-rolling" start, the 4.7 is close to at least 2 car lengths ahead from 0-60. Makes no sense to me? Am I missing something? 4.7 has 102K miles with original plugs, etc while 5.7 has had all dealer scheduled maintenance performed at approx. 80K miles. Is it the fact that the 2005 is a 5 speed auto with effectively two overdrives(4th and 5th), but the 4.7 is only a 4th speed overdrive? Trying to get a handle on the reality or? Any ideas? Thanks. Not complaining, but WTF and not expected.

Thats a 5.7 hemi, right, not a magnum 5.9? I know MY hemi, even with a DS is a dog off the line.It has to be the torque management.
My old xj with a 4.0 (yes it was a 5spd,but still) pulled 60' times in the 1.9x when my hemi pulls 2.35  think about that, only 60 feet and already about a half second behind! Granted when you get past the TM,it makes up for it

Is your '02 an HO? If so...that would explain it. The HOs were just as fast, if not slightly faster than the Hemis in stock form.

That being said, I can help with that problem...

Nope, the standard 4.7. Not the H.O. although I had the option at the time to pull the trigger. Poor decision on my part perhaps due to not having done my homework and really understood the differences.. In either case, I am interested in your proposed resolution(s) to the "unexpected" difference when compsred to the 5.7. Have read many threads with issues with electronic throttle,PCV issues without catch can, etc. Not having a problem with the suggestions, but surely did not expect the HEMI to be a "Dog"-Possible poor choice of words? I am all ears. Thanks for your initiative in improving my performance.

The Hemis (more so than the 4.7) are loaded up with power-sapping torque management. It does everything from soften your launches, to softening your shifts, etc etc. It just flat out sucks.

I would get yourself a catch can, however that won't solve your problems.

I sell tunes for these Jeeps, specializing in trans tunes. We drastically reduce torque management for improved launches, shifts, and performance. We can do PCM tuning as well, advancing ignition timing, refining VE tables etc etc etc....

The Hemi's, even all stock, respond VERY well to a tune. There is a couple of threads in this subforum with people running my tunes and giving reviews. Some of them are even switching from someone else's custom tune to mine.

So, get yourself a Diablo U7137 handheld, and give me a buzz when you're ready...
