I think this is what you are talking about. I have no idea what you are talking about with reinforcement though...

Do you have trouble finding your WJ at night? Just curious.

HAHAHAHHA...

Mitsu, that doesn't look like Mesa to me buddy! Sweet Jeep!

To Boom...there is no reinforcement needed...you just need to seal the bolt holes so there's no leakage into the cabin. I've had mine off and on a few times. I can't find a solution I like for the bolt holes left behind. Yet.

Excuse the poor pic, but I picked up 10 flat topped fixings for the holes. Fill hole with silicone, insert plastic thing. Done. Looks pretty neat.

I can't stand the groove though and can't find anything to fill it. Roof rails probably going back on.

PS. The black is vinyl not paint, hence the kinda un-neat finish in the groove. ;)

The "gutter" doesn't bother me as much as the front bolt holes...because you can see them so easily. I bought some screws that had a very flat head that I painted to match, but I didn't like it. Maybe I'll give those push-in plastic things a shot. I'd really like to go without over the winter. Less for snow and ice to grab on to. Thanks again man...I might find myself trying this again later on this week.

I too like the no rails look but that groove would drive me nuts. I'd have to put some body filler in there and I HATE body filler.

Well, rails came off today...and I used those plastic push-in jobbies Marty did. I have to say, I think I like it! No pics yet though...need to give it a proper cleaning before I can do that. I've got a wax ring around where the standoffs used to be and some funk in the rain gutter. We'll see what a little Ultimate Compound can do with it tomorrow after a bath. Then I'll post up some pics.

The glue under the rubber strip is a nightmare ti remove huh, Tony!?

Re: shaved roof racks on wj

It almost seemed like it used to be double-sided tape...but from years of water sitting in there it turned into some gelatinous rubberized butyl goop. I got the majority of it out...hopefully some light polishing will get any residue off. I took some hard-core scrubbing to get that crap out from under my fingernails though! It's getting a bath tonight, so hopefully I can make the rest disappear.

Looks nice, although I think I will be leaving them on, I do occasionally use them. I just took the cross bars off since they are easy to put back on if needed. At least I can push snow from back to front without hitting the bars, not to mention makes washing/waxing easier

Oh it makes live a TON easier without the crossbars.

I had the rails of a few times and always but them back on...but I'm sold on it now. They are staying off.
