Select Terrain - more info please

Has anyone compiled a more technical description of the driving modes than what is in the owner's manual under the "Select Terrain" section? For example, the sentence on Sport mode "Performance based tuning that provides a rear wheel drive feel but with improved handling and acceleration over a two-wheel drive vehicle" does not provide the level of understanding that I would like.

I find that description pretty accurate - sport mode shifts at a higher RPM, detunes traction control (while in sport mode, traction control light is illuminated on the dash), and (if you have QL) lowers the suspension. In my Jeep, it'll spin the rear wheels slightly at WOT from a stop.

I believe Snow also take away 1st gear. i.e., when accelerating from a stop, it puts you into 2nd instead of 1st to avoid wheel spin.

True, definitely. Good with freezing drizzle or freezing rain also.

Thanks for the response. I'm really looking for more technically oriented info, however. What precisely is standard ESP, reduced ESP and off-road ESP? HOW is this achieved (beyond just turning a knob).

"ESP" = Electronic Stability Program. Uses brakes to stabilize the vehicle. The Off Road ESP programs uses the brakes to mimic the effects of the electronic limited slip differential.

Try googling "Jeep ESP" (with quotes) for some actual technical info.

Or just turn the knob and enjoy, :)

My Jeep came with a CD which gives better descriptions than the manual.

Detailed information, we have been told, is Chrysler classified software. If they told us, they would have to kill us.
