Should I buy this Jeep? 2011 29K Laredo X

Hi

this is my first post and I'm new to Jeeps so bear with me...Yesterday I went and drove this Jeep and ended up putting $1000 (refundable) deposit on it. I've been looking and looking for a new SUV for a couple months and landed on the Jeep. I also looked at Volvo XC90, Pathfinder and VW Toureg. When I say new I mean 2010s and 2011s..

So what do you think? I definitely haven't seen anything for this price for all these options but I haven't bought a car in a long time. Would love to hear any and all opinions..

Thanks!

I thought I should clarify..29,000 miles. 4x4 V8 Hemi with selec terrain, leather and panoramic sunroof. They're asking 30,888 before tax and fees. Tax is 6.5% in minnesota.
Sorry if this is an annoying question but I have to decide today...

You could get a brand new laredo x for around 35,000. So a laredo x with 29K miles should be at least another 2 grand off that asking price, just what I would spend on that. Not to mention the 2012 laredos dropped in price from 2011.

I would option out a laredo x just like it using zagg.com or american express car buying service and see what they have the pricing on a new one so that you have a reference point for pricing. Then adjust the price for having 29K miles on it...

Personally, I don't see the value. They are paying you only ~6 cents per mile on the car. Look at leases and they charge 25 cents per mile if you go over. So you should bet at least $7K off versus buying new (for me this would be around ~26K to be a deal) since the warranty will run out soon and you are taking some risk.

Bigger question is where did the 9,000 miles come from? Who has been driving this Jeep as it sold at auction with 20K, not 29K? Also shows no service for those 9K miles.

Wow. Thanks so much for all your insights. I did go to the Amex site and
optioned out a brand new 2011 4x4 Laredo X with everything this one has and it came in at 31,600 !? I'm not sure exactly how that site works?

LogicNow, we have the Carfax you refer to and did have some off those same questions but like I said we haven't bought a car in a long time. Those are some great observations..I think I'll ask for 26K or else ask for our deposit back. I'm guessing it was someone at the dealership that drove that 9,000 miles which makes the lack of service extra fishy.

Would it be possible to go to a dealer and get a new 2011 in the color I want with the options I want or do I have to settle for the 2011s they have in stock?

I would say under $27k would be a decent deal. I am considering brand new hemi limited with luxII, tow, 20" wheels and have them down to 35,900.

The price they are asking is too much for a car that has almost 30,000 miles. With it being the end of 2011, it is a great time to buy a new Jeep. You can get amazingly low deals on NEW 2011s and some 2012s). If you are willing to pay $30,000, I would go for a new Loredo X. You won't be disappointed. If you are going for the used, I wouldn't pay anything over $26,000 out the door. Having said that, I would still pay more for a new Jeep. Good luck!

Why do you need to decide so soon? Unless it's off your personal agenda, don't be pressured. As much as you want the car, they want to sell it even more. If pressured again, explain politely that you don't like being pressured into a sale and would rather walk away if they do it again.

With 30k miles, it's almost out of warranty... and maybe it's because my jeep is in service with only 3500 miles, but I would definitely factor in extended warranty costs, which you absolutely must get.

Like others said, I would look into ponying up a few more grand and getting a new one. But go to a different dealership and start fresh (i.e. don't mention that you looked at a used one, or stick with the same dealer and say you want a new one now, as that won't get you any good deals).

Good luck with the search!
