Borla vs. Corsa

We picked-up our WK2 Friday. Biggest complaint was my wife said "It didn't sound like a Hemi, fix it." So we have both read all the posts re: Cat backs, listened to the video/sound tracks, and are down to either Borla or Corsa. As a baseline, we have a C6 Corvette with the dual mode exhaust with the mild-to-wild mod which lets us switch from a throaty growl to stock (much quieter) sound, at least below 4,000 RPM. Love the sound going through the gears or driving around town. But at cruise between 55-85 I prefer it quieter rather than the constant growling at a steady speed, the wife likes the growl.

As a summary here's what I've gleaned from all the posts:

Borla - Louder of the two while idling, accelerating (both mildly and WOT) and steady cruise, some drone at cruise when MDS kicks in at certain RPM's, has smaller diameter piping, more concealed apperance of rear mufflers.

Corsa - Growl seems to be most noticable primarily only under heavier acceleration while closer to OEM at idle or mild acceleration, has the definate edge in drone elimination, cruise is quieter, picked by Mopar as its performance exhaust (for what its worth), rear mufflers more visibile (hence more at risk off-road?), 3" piping vs 2.5 with Borla.

Both will fit with skid plates per their websites, which is a biggie.

My concerns are that the Corsa will not have the volume at the lower power levels or at idle, and that the Borla will be too loud at cruise. I'm trying to balance what my wife and I each want.

So, would those with either the Borla or Corsa chime in and correct or validate my impressions? Feel free to offer suggestions.

Thanks, Bill

I installed my Borla cat back last week so you know who I'm partial to. I am very happy with the Borla and all thAt you stated were correct. It does have a cleaner, concealed appearance with just enough of the mufflers sticking out so you can see Borla. I heard the Corsa when installed looks to be at an angle and visible from the rear. The sound is quite noticeable when the stupid MDS is engaged but I just turn up the radio then. I love the sound and psychological power! So with that being said since I'm a chick, I should make someone a pretty cool wife too?

For me drone was the key factor in corsa vs borla. They are both good! The corsa is a screamer at WOT. It is also louder when cold at idle ,once the exhaust heats up the little seems to quite up.Over all I am happy with my selection even after having fittment issue in which corsa corrected. I used borla on my other toy SRT4 and was never disapointed by the fit or finish. Thats my 2 cents....

Bill, congrats on the WK2! Thanks for the PM, haven't visited JeepGarage for a bit. Patiently waiting for a tuning-programmer to be released & either a full CAI by Woody or KN to complete the 1st phase of build up. I've accumulated 17K miles on the WK2... and all but 300 miles include all the mods including the Corsa exhaust.

I would agree, the Corsa has a throaty idle and a little lower volume when warm but continues to be lower & louder than OEM after warm. Mild accel onto on-ramps or normal accel at intersections provides ample tones & volume both interior and exterior to others. Last May, I drove a lengthy road vaca: Des Moines, Salt Lake, Vegas, Moab, Grand Canyon, Houston Tx, and back to Des Moines, IA. Great trip, but I wouldn't say the Corsa is quite at cruise. It has a growl & much higher volume than OEM at 70-90mph cruise for cabin noise... not bad, just always present. As others have noted in previous comments, when WOT or passing, it makes a loud statement... almost like a set of pipe cutouts were present!

I removed & installed the exhaust in my garage without assistance with no issues using air suspension fully up & locked. Installed all the skid plates in garage without any interference or fitting issues; a little play in the clamps & coupling provided all the needed adjustments. Although from the rear, the canisters appear to hang lower, I doubt you'll experience a ground clearance problem. I took several trails while in Moab and never experienced a pipe or canister clearance problem during creek & rock climbs. I think my exhaust kit (Mar 2011) was one of their 1st sets, maybe closer attention was given to the bends concerning overall fit.

All in all, I like the Corsa exhaust! My only complaint would be the shift sound of the exhaust... but hopefully that will be improved with a tuning-programmer and modified fuel injection / MDS mgmt. And... the bump of 80+ HP!

Others have expressed high satisfaction of the Borla. Both are great, both are an improvement to OEM Stock sounds! Good Luck with your decision!

Well I don't feel so bad about my wife being that same way. When we picked our Hemi up she said it just doesn't sound right. Coming from a Supercharged Range Rover Sport she was used to the growl. I got the you know how to fix that speech on the way home. I ordered the Corsa a few weeks back, but I'm still waiting. Can't wait for the sound change.
