Seeing that I need to make a first post to reply I will tell you what I am up to!

I am looking at a 2002 GC with the 4.7 standard issues. The ad is saying it has an issue with the transmission shifting out of 1st and into 2nd. With the 45RFE transmissions there seems to be allot of different things it might be and not all are transmission related. The tcm might be getting false readings from the pcm or sensors like the TPS, MAP, VAF, MAF not to mention something as simple as the temperature sensors on the engine or transmission. These dam high fangle computers this days make things tough and whether you believe it or not they lie to you, sending you chasing your tail!

Has anyone had this difficulty shifting from first to second?

Seems that the shop could not figure it out! As there are not codes popping. So they are left with old fashion wrench turning!

Welcome to JG! Sounds like what happened to me when my throttle position sensor went out, it was a $40 and 20 minute fix to replace it. The transmission would stay in a low gear I'm assuming because it never got the signal that the throttle was open enough to shift. Good luck though, it could be many things, and its hard to tell if there are no codes popping up. Could even be as simple as low fluid level, although I'd guess they would have checked that.

Thanks for the reply! Yep fluid level is fine! You know I thought the same thing TPS. I was thinking more of a flat spot as it does eventurally go into second and then everything is fine until you stop! Then it starts all over again! Very repeatable! Rather than farting around maybe $40 could save hours of figuring this out!

Well bought the WJ 2002 for $1800 as there were several issues with it! What a steal! New sneakers, leather seats, clean inside, no rust, couple of dings, 4.7L, 242 t-case and Tow Pkg (Dana44A). Needs a brake job, transmission clunk 2-3, Overheating and racing in park 1800RPM is idle!

Did a little probing aroung TPS has a large flat spot and ECT sensor shorted. Replaced both no more overheating, thought I might have a bad Hydaulic fan assembly ($$$$), works well now. TPS fixed the racing and the clunk! $87.53 to fix,not to bad!

Now onto the shot brake rotors! Back ones are way gone! Fronts can be turned! there seems to be two different sets of calibers on this year GC, anyone know how to tell the difference?

Tough doing this on a fixed income! I thing I am getting ahead of it!

If you have this caliper the stuff in your link above will fit.This is the preferred Akebono caliper.

If you have this caliper the stuff in the above link won't fit and you'll probably suffer a lifetime of warped rotors because of a design flaw with the slides.

If you have the Teves you might want to consider the Teves to Akebono conversion because WJs are hard on front rotors even with the good calipers. Try this link for some more info. http://www.wjjeeps.com/brakes.htm

Thanks for the info! I will have to look into this as now is the time to do so! Might you know if there are any implications with the ABS by switching calibers?

Nope Jeep used them from mid 02 to 04 and retrofitted many earlier ones under a tsb.
