advance collison warning questoin

hello all

not sure this is the right place, but thought I'd try!

I have an Overland Summit, 2012...thus far, love it, but cannot figure out one feature, the "advance collision warning." My understanding is that this will flash and beep if you get too close to another vehicle or large object. I think it "works" as it did go off once, in a parking garage when I was making a turn...but I can't seem to figure out what the warning distance is....I've gotten pretty close behind some cars just to see if the thing would go off, and it doesn't....and of course, this is not safe driving. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I'm guessing it works the same as it does in my Charger. To get the "warning", you have to have the gas pedal depressed at the same time you get close to a vehicle that's going slower for the warning to activate. On my charger, it doesn't apply the brakes, it only beeps and shows "BRAKE" on the display.

If you have a foot on the brake it is not going to warn you. It will warn you whether you have a foot on the accelerator or not, but accelerating gives you more collision oportunities.

You can set it to I think 3 sensitivities via the EVIC menu.

The system calculates the speed difference between you and an object ahead and displays the warning if a collision is probable. On the highway I've seen it go off several car lengths.

If you're driving really fast and there are cars that are stopped in front of you and your closure speed is fast the ACW will beep.

I've actually gone over a small hill at 25mph (speed limit on the street) with nobody around and the display said "BRAKE." It freaked me out because there was nothing around me and I only had the car for a few days. I thought it was a bad sensor or something. It has given a couple other false warnings since. However, it has warned me a couple times when I really needed to be warned though, so I know it works.

thanks all....well, perhaps I have a faulty one.....I've gotten very close (with no foot on the brake) and nothing happens...I think it has two sensitivity settings--"far" and "near"...might be a dealer question!

thanks again
