Clonking, Binding, Knocking....

Thats the best way to explain it....

My fiance noticed it first yesterday morning on her way to work. When I got home in the evening I did a drive around the block and sure enough it was there...

The noise happens at any speed, (the noises are faster when moving faster which tells me drivetrain related), its exacerbated when going over speed bumps, but happens idling forward on perfectly smooth ground.

There is no rhythm to it as in regular beats/intervals it is completely sporadic.

I took the car to the dealership last night and due to the Enterprise being closed and the requirement of us needing 2 cars for work we drove it home to be dropped off early the next morning.

Well, by the time we got home the noise was gone. I had chalked it up to a new part that was in the process of "breaking in" and had just gotten stuck.

Well halfway to work this morning my lady called to let me know it started again.

Needless to say she is dropping the car off and getting a rental today.

Its a bit upsetting/unsettling that a car with barely 1000 miles on it is already having problems. Thank god we are friends with the VP of Operations for one of the largest DCJ dealers in Southern California... Hopefully we get treated well...

Hopefully the problem is resolved and a defective part is located, and they don't just start replacing parts hoping to solve the probelm...

Mine had loose front suspension components that made a similar clunking noise while driving and going over bumps. It took three trips to get it fixed. It ended up being a sway bar that needed to be replaced because the threads were out of spec.

Thanks for the thought! I originally didn't agree with your thought as a solution to my problem, but after receiving a call from the dealer saying the front sway-bar was loose and knocking around I couldn't agree more. Lol :)

I hope it truly was this and they didn't just "fix" something.

My Jeep is a 2012 Overland 4x4 w/ Hemi.

I was extremely pleased with the diagnosis and paperwork that stated what work was performed and how it was done.

Im sure this may be common practice, but they installed a "chassis ear" to isolate where the noise was coming from to fine tune their diagnosis of the problem. I thought this was a pretty cool piece of technology...
