Is the new 6 speed v8 2012 worth it or save money and get 2011

Hey everyone.... I've been following all the threads for few months now.... I'm ready to buy in the next day or so.... Should I save the cash and get a 2011 4x4 v8 5 speed or go with a 2012 v8 6 speed (also 2012 had time to work out kinks right?) is there a huge difference in 5/6 speed? Main differences in 2011/12? Help

It is the same transmission with a different software and updated torque converter. otherwise the gear ratios stay the same once the 2011 is updated with the TSB that basically makes it a 6 speed. In my opinion, a late build 2011 is no different than a 2012...

If I had known (i.e. read this site) before buying that the two transmissions were the same and I could just get a software update to make the 5 work as a 6 I would have definitely saved the money and bought the '11 IMHO. Good luck with the purchase!!

I would ask them to do the update as part of the purchase deal so you don't have to worry about if they will do it or not after the fact.

Good advise! I'd bring this up right away when you talk to the dealer.

If your build date is mid April or Later, it will already have the latest TSB. Although functionally the same, you will never see a "6" EVIC display in a 2011 :)

If I were you, I would drive a 2011 with the software update and a 2012. To me, the 2012 feels different in two respects. One, part throttle response is better, and second, downshifts are faster.

I would recommend a 2012 model since it will incorporate a bunch of other small changes based on data collected from the 2011 model year.

Go with a 2012, yeah the 2011 us cheaper, but when u plan to trade it off on a new one in the future, your going to lose what you saved on trade-in, so it's always nice to always get a newer model if they are out. My 2 pennies.

Besides the 6 speed programming, the other main difference in 2012s is the change to an electro-hydraulic power steering pump. So with 2012s, there's no belt going from the power steering pump to a pulley on the engine. The engine not having the power steering pump drawing power from it gives a 1mpg increase over 2011.
I think this is V6 only? Don't remember.

As mentioned eariler, check the build date. I looked at there 2011s last week and the build dates were August and October 2010. One of the dealers had picked up inventory from a dealership that had gone bankrupt. All three were Laredo Xs with discounts of 6K to 6.5K including the 1K rebate.

I drove the 2011 HEMI (late builds) many times and the 2012 is definitely smoother. I noticed the difference the first time I drove a 2012 with the V8. I would go for the 2012.
