5w-30 is what is recommended for the 4.7 V8 engine. That said, I'm not sure how much of a difference there really is between that and 5w-20 and I doubt it would hurt then engine. Kinda strange though, dealers typically would use the "exact spec" fluid.

Re: Oil Change Help!!!!

I was reading on a site of an engineer in oil stuff who was telling that nowadays they use 5W20 for fuel saving, just to keep the cars within the environmental specifications. The oil has less viscosity and the engine runs with a little less resistance. Only lower viscosity oil can not as good keep the oil film between 2 metal parts as the higher viscosity oils. So there is a bigger change of metal to metal contact under high load.
Also higher milage engines already tend to have lower oil pressures due to the wear, using a lower viscosity oil will only bring the pressure down even more.

A lot of new motors also use thinner oil because of the much tighter fit between parts. Thicker oil won't always fit where it's needed w/ such tight tolerances.

But I've also seen the same vehicles recommend a thinner oil in the US and a thicker oil in Europe. I'm sure that's simply to please our EPA folks.

That article makes me want to try 0W30 at my next oil change....it makes perfect sense. What are you running?

I am using Amsoil 0w20 full synthetic. The engine seems to run very well with it.

I used 0-20 in my Jeep once. I notice improvement over the normal 5-20 in gas mileage or the smoothness of the engine. Wast of money IMO since it cost a few pennies more than the 5-20 mobil one.

Yeah, my dealer did the same thing. I live in Arizona so I don't need that oil. I use 10w-30w oil. Next oil change I will do myself and use synthetic. Gotta love those stealerships.
