winter worries

hey guys, last spring i took off my roof rack on my WJ. since then it obviously hasn't snowed. i don't park my car in a garage and i was wondering if i should worry about getting snow on top of my car in the winter and having it seep into the jeep at all. it rained a lot over the summer and i didn't have any problems but i was wondering if you guys have any thoughts.

thanks.

Re: winter worries

I would find a way to cover or seal the holes. I had a broken roof rack on a Cherokee a while back with just the screws in the holes and it leaked. There might be a factory roof rack delete option you can try.

How many holes it is? 4 on each side?

Re: winter worries

Maybe just put a little ARP liquid thread sealer on all the bolts and put them back in. That will with out a doubt seal them off.

Re: winter worries

At the very very least, i would use white thread tape on all the screw threads and with out over tightening put the screws back in, That should stop any water. Plugs alone wont stop leaks, there needs to be some kind of seal covering the hole or a sealant on the plug or screw.

Re: winter worries

The ARP thread sealer is pretty much a liquid paste version on the white teflon tape. Either will work fine. If you get watter through either your doing something wrong.

sorry i haven't been able to get back to you on this i've been busy with school and haven't been able to get on the site that much.

but thanks a lot. i think i'll be okay with everything. there was some ice on my car the other day (which is crazy because its october) and when it all melted the inside of the car seemed to be fine. i'll see how things go.

its easier to prevent it, than to fix it...... dont assume its going to be ok. Just a thought!

Seriously, you do not want to deal with fixing that after it happens because it will. With the headliner in the WJ it will travel down the head liner and down the body to under the carpet, causing rust and mold. Just fix it now.
