Re: new 3.6l pentastar

so every 3.6l in the 2011 and up can run e-85?

Any thoughts on running it and how the mileage changes from 87 to e-85

also what fuel seems to be cheaper

Flex fuel is cheaper but your fuel economy will drop.

Yea, dont bother with E85, the savings is minimal at best and the amt of miles you lose is more of a loss than the difference in cost per mile, its a wash, if not a loss..

You can expect to lose around 20% MPG with E-85.

Check your gas cap. If it says E-85, then you can use E-85. That goes for any car out there.

You will lose about 20% mpg. Given the cost of E-85 right now, you are probably working on a loss there. BUT, if you prefer to have your gas money going to a local farmer rather than to the Middle East, you might decide to do it just out of principle. Of course, if everyone does that, then it will throw our corn industry into a bit of chaos and food prices, etc., will rise. So, overall, probably not worth your time.

Food prices have already gone through the roof as a result of ethanol. No brainer to me. Better mileage with regular gas at less expense, only way to go. Don't know why anyone would go with E-85 since you get less bang for the buck.

I haven't done a comparison with the Jeep, but with my Tahoe, it had to be approx $.65 less to even consider going with E85 and even then it was close to a wash. Not worth it as the prices sit today.

Maybe at the current gas prices at the time. You should be looking at percentages rather than fixed values.

If Ethanol gets you 20% less mileage than Gas, it should cost 20% less to break even. $0.65 may have been true at the time, but that would vary.

^^That is correct...it was more of a ballpark figure when quickly checking at that time. I did the numbers a few times and never really found it worth it.
