My 2012 GC Laredo X with Saharah Wheels and Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor Tires

I posted a thread a while back asking if I should do white letters in or out (http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=32137)

I mentioned that I would make a new thread about the wheels and such so here it is. :)

Right after I bought my Grand Cherokee (Bright Silver Metallic), I bought some slightly scratched up 2011 Sahara wheels off Craigslist ($250), had them painted at my buddy's body shop Mineral Grey metallic (he does a lot of Chrysler custom work so he has the exact paint color). I had Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor tires on my previous Grand Cherokee and I really liked them for all-season driving so I picked up some for this one.

It looked like this when I got it...

Meh.

Then I bought the wheels and had them painted...

Mounted the tires...

and now it looks like this...

It is kinda tough to take pics using an iPhone...the wheel detail doesn't come out well because they are so dark.

Damn...does the back of the spoke ever come close to the brake caliper on the front. I make sure I check the lug nut torque every now and then to be safe. I was told you need a business card's thickness. This is maybe 2 or 3. :)

Overall, I am very happy with how it looks. What's everyone think?

It is that tight? Dang.. lol They look great though and I love the color/style and tires too! I am also in the market for some sahara rims, been browsing ebay. 250 is a great find, I'm going to paint them as well, but want to leave the flat lip machined.. i think...

Looks great! I retract my statement in your original post... White letters out would take away from the rims...

Sure is. I just took another look at them...maybe 2 business card thickness clearance...max.

Here's a some pics of the clearance...

Kinda makes ya nervous, doesn't it? :)

I have custom Forgeline wheels on my Camaro, and I have about the same amount of clearance on the back wheels between the spoke and the caliper. I have driven it pretty hard and there have been no issues.

Even if the lugs did loosen enough to make the wheel tilt and the back of the spoke hit the caliper hardware...I think it would more "rub" than strike...the first few times anyway. Then I would simply self-clearance! ;);)

I look at it this way...if your wheel flexes THAT much under normal or even semi-extreme circumstances, you have some serious issues. I'll check the lug torque at least once a month and before any long drives...just in case. I have a really nice digital torque wrench and a cheapie from Harbor Freight...I might keep the cheapie in the back of the Jeep...just in case.

The guy wanted $300, but he also wanted them out of his garage and they were chipped/scratched up. I got him down to $250 for all 5. I didn't paint the one that didn't have any scratches and will put it up for sale.

Thanks for the nice words, everyone!

So are they painted or powder coated? and how much did the process run you? and what color is it technically?

I've priced out powder coating and its 125 per wheel.

I don't know the cost, my buddy who owns a paint shop did it for free since we trade work. He painted them OEM Mineral Gray Metallic and used the exact color code that comes from the factory. He does a lot of custom work for Chrysler for their show cars, etc.

They look great. Everyone has a "buddy". I need a "buddy". I would have to pay top $ for such work.

Looks great! Was the tire size on the Silent Armors the same 265/60's that were stock? Im thinking of going to 265/65's to get an extra inch on the diameter, but wanted to see if they cleared

Yup, went with same tire size.
