First long trip on my '12 Overland 4x4

Only had 550 miles when we decided to take the Jeep over the Prius from Austin to Des Moines. Total miles over the last 2 days was 950 and EVIC said 22.3 mpg while manual calculation was at 20.996. I'm sure I could have done better if it weren't for the stiff northerly wind.

The Jeep is so comfortable to drive and even though it's not exactly the one I wanted (wanted Limited because i hate the wood trim plus I don't care for the QL for fear of future repairs), I was able to look past all of that and focused on comfort not only for myself but for my pregnant wife and our 3 yr old.

Pros:
- wife was able to sleep with ease and even made a comment about how quiet the interior was even with the wind and how less bumpy the ride was. I guess chalk one up for the QL
- the boy loved the scenic sunroof. What 3 yr old wouldn't especially when multiple formations of Canadian Geese were flying west(????) for the winter.
- me...holy crap! I'm doing 80?!?!?!

Cons:
- wife felt the need to "baby" the nice and brand new interior and seemed bothered that she left a smudge print courtesy of her shoe on the glove box.
- quiet interior meant that the boy was louder than the usual trip.
- maybe it's me but this damn uConnect is kind of a pain to use. Seems clunky.

Overall, the family is more than satisfied and the trip back home will be just as pleasant minus the traffic and the other crazy drivers out there.

Nice. Did you pick up a V6 or V8?

Sounds like a good trip. You will get use to the Uconnect, sort of. We are all waiting for a software patch. Tell your wife she can ride in my Jeep anytime.

He owns a Prius. It's probably the V6.

You don't really know that the geese are "Canadian", but you can be sure they are "Canada" geese.

LOL. Yes, it's a V6 and no, I didn't check the birds' passports. :)

I must admit that there were a couple of hills where I wished I had the Hemi while passing but I really shouldn't considering my passengers. MPGs to me aren't that big of a deal with this Jeep since I mostly work from home. With my Tacoma, I filled up once every 5-6 weeks or so. I'm more practical than I care to admit.

We've finally made it home!!! And I take back what I said about briefly wanting that hemi. The V6 has lots of power.

Final MPG numbers according to the truck is 24.7 but manual calculation only amounted to 22.1 over 2300 miles. This was mostly highway going on avg of probably less than 65 since we hit traffic in Forth Worth and it was slow going until we got past Killeen. Went 80-85 through KS turnpike though. Best tank was the last tank from KS to TX at 23 mpg but I didn't have to fight a head wind and it seemed like it was mostly downhill and traffic.

DTE, as another poster mentioned, supposedly calculates based on your average from your last tank or something along those lines. From what I observed, it's only true after you filled up but it recalculates as you drive. My last tank started out a little over 500 and noticed it got as high as 600. Another thing that led me to this conclusion is from OKC, GPS said that we were 380 miles away from home and DTE was 358. By the time I got to the Red River, DTE was 15 miles more than distance from home.

GPS map had a wierd thing going on. As we left Iowa, a portion of the map turned blue. Intially, I thought I just needed to zoom out since there was a body of water there but we knew the pond wasn't that big. Eventually, we hit a "corner" and the map ended. Turns out, I just needed to turn it off and on again. Weird...

The buzzing sound I initially posted seems to be tied to my gas pedal. Everytime I stepped on the gas, the buzz would come on briefly and would fade as I reached my cruising speed. Didn't matter how fast or slow I was going and it was only really noticable from the driver's side. Quite annoying.

I didn't get a chance to test out 4x4 on snow...didn't see any or on any other surface.

The sound system...is it me or is it kinda meh?

Good description. It's okay, nothing more. Can't understand why they offer something better as an option for the SRT, but not for other versions. That would make for some happier customers and fatter profits.

BTW, something seems original correlating your rep power (6219) with only 16 posts. Did you change ID or some such to set your posts counter back to zero, or did your posts odometer turn over to zero at some large figure?

Or did I miss some mighty awesome posts? :D

Could be because of this thread: http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php...866#post521866

Hmmm...seems like that gmail space meter. As I type this, my rep power is up to 6220. Hmmm...maybe I'm just a highly reputable poster! hahaha.

Merry Christmas to you all!
