4.7 Gen Two HO cams install?
Seeing as how the Gen. 1 WJ started with 235hp, then the HO went to 260HP, followed with the WK Gen 1 with 265(?)Hp, we now have the Gen 2 at 305hp:) I have read many other internet forums where the cam swap with the HO cams in the WJ was good for an honest 20whp. I would think with the Gen 2 with the higher flowing heads, light weight piston rod assembly and better intake set-up, would'nt the HO cams really "come alive" in this application? Just curious. I am really impressed with the power of my Gen 2 stock, but the thought of just a cam swap and tune to get to maybe 340HP Flywheel is temtpting:) Thanks.

Although it appears like the gen 1 cams could theoretically swap in, im not sure if youd want to. It appears that at minimum the lift is significantly more than the factory Gen 1 offerings.

If thats your goal, TB porting, intake, and exhaust work would likely get you close. Diablo is eorking on tuning support, they already support dodge 4.7s.

the HO cams from 02-04 are VERY similar to the 08+ cams

I'm not surprised. This engine really hauls ass on the interstate. No as strong as the Hemi off idle and the midrange, as I drove both extensively before I bought this one. Hemi was 4800.00 more, same model and options. But both of them doing full throttle pedal stomp from 70mph running up to 90+, the 4.7 Gen 2 held it's own quite well. The top end rush from this engine is outstanding (to me) in a factory SUV this capable.

Yes.....excellent top end power bit lacking low in the rpm range. A custom cam set from X1 tech would cure that....but they cost big bucks and your tuning options are limited. k1 also does a stroked crank for the gen2 4.7....but that will need a bored block.

Re: 4.7 Gen Two HO cams install?
will be following this thread as i am looking for more low end torque- i have the tuner, exhaust, and throttle body. will be adding an intake and maybe a hi-flow cat. the low end on these suck. now granted i have the 07 4.7, which will haul ass up top- but i could prob beat this thing off the line on foot

So far, I have found nothing useing a Google search since I last posted. I tried typeing in K1 Tech .com, or K1 camshafts wk, K1 Jeep performance, etc. Nothing. What is the actual website for these folks? Also, what does come up alot is a place in New York called Kennedys Performance. Supposedly they built a 400+ flywjeel horespower 4.7. But, nothing is listed as such on their site. The more I drive this engine, I think that with a ported TB by Ryan and an extemsive Dyno tune that would be more than enough for this engine. The HyperTech and Superchips websites both list 30+ horespower at the wheels form thier canned tunes on there website dyno sheets from the Rams with the Gen 2 engine in it. I find that a little hard to belive that Chrysler would leave that much power on the table, but who knows, maybe they did'nt want the American made (Mack Avenue, Detriot!) small bore engine to kick the Hemi's tale:)

Re: 4.7 Gen Two HO cams install?
At some point I am supposedly going to be sent both a Gen 1 and Gen 2 4.7 intake manifolds to port. I dont think anyone's ever tried porting them so it will be interesting to see what happens. I had mildly ported an '07 3.7 manifold with EXCELLENT results. 10-15 whp without tuning.

Really would like Diablo to get moving with CMR support for these. These engines seriously wake up from tuning, the dyno claims from the tuners really arent as exaggerated as they seem.

Re: 4.7 Gen Two HO cams install?
So if the 08+ cam is very similar to the WJ HO cam, then can the 08+ cam be swapped onto an older engine? Say an 06? I imagine these newer cams would be a little cheaper than the WJ HO ones due to the number produced.
