WK2 Transmission Oil

We really like our new WK2 Laredo X with Off Road Adv Pack II. Only disappointment is the Michelin Latitude tires. I always think these tires are the weak link when doing serious 4WD roads. I also tow a 5000 lbs travel trailer and have run the trans temp well over 200 on hills. I was thinking about a transmission oil change. Can anyone provide tips on how to change the trans oil?

Welcome! I'm going to move your post over to the WK2 where you might get more of a response.

Never just change your transmission oil. You should do a flush. It is hooked up to a machine that flushes the trans including the torque converter. If you just drain the pan you are only getting about 1/3 of the fluid out. You should also change the trans filter when you have this done. I would also recommend that you put in a premium trans fluid such as Amsoil or Royal Purple. They cost more but as the saying goes....you get what you pay for.

Re: WK2 Transmission Oil

The WK2 uses a sealed transmission so I doubt it is very consumer friendly. As mentioned above it is probably best and easiest to take it to the dealer and have them flush and change to a high performance fluid.

Also, most transmission shops can replace the fluid. The transmission behind the V8 has been around for a decade, should be lots of experience with it everywhere.

My Laredo X has the 5.7 liter hemi with the "multi speed overdrive automatic transmission". I thought this was a new generation transmission rather than around for a decade???. I like the idea of going to a transmission shop for the oil flush and change, but is there enough experience with this transmission at the corner quick lube?

I would never let "Skippy" from the corner quick lube touch any of my cars. Go to a shop with ASE certified mechanics. Trust me, you'll be glad you did.;)

Google 545RFE or check the following link for a history. Marketing has called the transmission "multispeed" for some time, currently called a "six speed". Torque converters have had a few changes over the years but the transmission has basically remained the same, with parts updates now and then.

I would go to a competent transmission shop that you trust (has a good reputation).
