2013 news at Detroit or Chicago?

Anxiously waiting to hear when the diesel option will be available and if any other engine/tranny options will be available. Will the announcement for 2013 options be at Detroit or Chicago?

Really need to replace my '04 Tahoe. Miss my '98 5.9 ZJ. Leaning toward a used '11+ Touareg TDI but would jump on a WK2 diesel in a heartbeat if it were available within 6 months.

I honestly do not think you will see a diesel available within the next 6 months. They might announce it in Detroit, probably for a fall 2012 launch as a '13.

Re: Toureg TDI - I test drove the VW and was quite happy with the diesel performance, but keep in mind that the TDI spare is a collapsible tire that might last 1 mile if you are off-road on anything other that a completely smooth surface. That was the deal killer for us1

Wow, you didn't buy the vehicle you liked all because of the spare tire it came with? Interesting lol. You couldn't just like buy a extra wheel and tire for those times you go offroading and throw it in the back?

I agree with mcmartens. To me, part of the appeal of an off-road-capable vehicle is to know I can head off-road whenever I feel like it. No skidplates, etc. on Toureg either. Also don't want to have to worry about throwing in a full-size spare whenever I tow the boat I recently got (~3500 lbs. including trailer). A spare well that can hold only a compact in such a vehicle seems like a waste of space. The 8-speed CRD WK2 can't come soon enough for me. Assuming the mileage is similar to or better than Touareg TDI, it will be my first Jeep, first 4WD, first "Big 3" vehicle.

The diesel is scheduled for the 2013 model year - with order banks opening in June and production starting in late July/early August. Official sales launch date September 1st (along with the rest of the 2013 lineup). They *might* reveal it at an upcoming auto show, if so it would not be until the NY show in April.

Milous, can you confirm the CRD will be introduced with the 8 speed?

Thanks for the info Milous... that's a long way off. Any idea if it will be offered on Laredo trim or will they only package in Limited or higher? Just trying to get an idea if the diesel can be had for $30k or will it end up closer to $40k?

I'm waiting on the 8 speed transmission. I'm interested to see how it enhances the v6 and the CRD would be an interesting option.

Does anyone know if the v6 will get Fiats multiair for 2013?

Re: 2013 news at Detroit or Chicago?

So let me get this straight. For the 2013 model lineup Jeep is 100% going to be offering the diesel Grand Cherokee in the USA? I am VERY excited about this because I did a little research on WK2jeeps site and they say combined city/hwy fuel economy is going to be 28.6mpg, and 32.6 highway!!!!! And to top it off 400lbs/ft torque. That along with stuff like the possibility of a new tranny, and the rumored LED tail lights etc etc all make for some very exciting stuff ahead. 2013 Overland might the one for me finally :-) As much as I would love to have the Hemi, I just know I would get sick of the fuel economy, and to think I can possibly get the Overland I want and see an increase in fuel economy over my current Acura TL that already does excellent is unthinkable.

I can confirm the CRD is a great drive and the motor of choice in the JGC IMHO.
Even with the 5sp gearbox it has so much torque you do not need all the other ratios, except to get better economy. I am now looking to get one for myself, as the wife gets to drive it all the time.
